NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Peeps buy 3080 to replace the 2080ti, 3080ti comes out and they buy one to replace there 3080's
We are talking about Supers, not Ti. That's different. Anyone who buys a 3080 and replaces it with a Ti one of two months later is a bit of a muppet, considering all of this information on release dates will be known before you buy the 3080.

Muppet or not that what happens with the 780's the 980's and the 1080's and then peeps then getting the Ti's

Those are 3 upcoming must play games for me, there are others too, just not as high on my list, also my current steam library would all run 60fps at 4K on a RTX 3070. Plus it is nice to get new shiny tech, at least this time the RT will make sense as there will be games to play and it won't tank your fps nearly as badly as the 2000 series does. Not to mention this time DLSS will work :)

Now that it is arriving it makes zero sense to wait another 6 months because a super edition might or might not come out. Just does not add up. Just saying ;)

Sorry didnt read your spec going from 580 to 3xxx would make sense for 4k. I reckon we wont see new cards this year though. Will take a long while for Asia to ramp up production I dont think they have even started in general from what I have been reading. Even if they managed to bring out new cards this year it will be overpriced due to lack of quantity. Everyone fighting over 50 or so units I reckon OCUK will grab the quantity as they have good relationships but I predict this round it will be people complaining about lack of stock rather than performance.

Just as an example its took over 6 months for the Oculus Quest just to start dribbling back into stock and that still never recovered from the Christmas stock. As soon as its in stock it sells out straight away.

I'm referring to it's second hand value once Ampere has launched. For instance I was able to sell my 1080ti for 90% of what I paid - but for the 2080ti it looks like I'm going to get well under 50%

I paid 1200 pounds for my asus strix 2080ti by pre ordering it before stock even arrived, I was one of the first in the country to have it

I'm going to give mine to my kids. Minecraft RTX might actually get some usage by them. :)

I have had a 2080Ti for ~ 18 months and I'll probably just skip the 3080's unless they offer a huge boost in 3D rendering. For gaming there is zero point in upgrading for me.

Ampere will have to have huge gains over the 2080Ti for me to rush out and buy, Although I have had this card nearly since release so and even got my free copy of space invaders. personally rather wait and see what 4000 ryzens bring me before jumping ampere

Still waiting with my 1080 non ti from launch. I should have waited for the ti really, so even when the new cards release i might hold off. If the price is nuts though ill just get a 3070.

Think we could all do with some grounding at times like this. Always such new hope on new GPUS, when fundamentally all you are geting is more FPS in a game. It's not like we are all going to get sucked into the matrix here:D

If you don't get into the game then all you've got to get hyped about is a higher number on your fraps counter in the corner.

So if 2077/insert game here doesn't live up to hype then be prepared to mitigate disappointment

@TNA you say to sell Turing now, with absolutely no evidence of the next gen specs let alone hard release date. How do you propose I and others game until then?!

Also not everyone is the same, it's noble to want to save money (I do my best with my PC hardware) but for some people this is is their main hobby and spending to stay on the top is something they enjoy.

But I share general sentiment of crazy GPU prices these days!

I never check FPS, all I want is the best-looking and most immersive experience possible without noticing any bad performance. Gsync/Freesync means FPS drops are smoothed out anyway for any games that do have lower FPS. Twitch games for the lose. :p

I often wait to play older games in their full modded glory rather than new and unoptimised releases. I have a big back catalogue to get through and I want them at 4k looking like rays of heaven. :D

Dono mate would like to see the benches before I put with the readys. My 2080ti has been stellar not a problem the 3080ti will have to be at least 50% for me to upgrade I think .

Assuming the 3070 is what we are expecting then it might be worth you upgrading to it just for the RT uplift :)

No problem. Was a Vega 64 owner until recently. But all the games I am playing at the moment run well on my 580.

Up to you what you do. I would get a cheap card to tide you over. I went from a vega 64 to a rx 580 and playing games that run fine on it from my steam library for example. But each to their own :)

Fair enough the 2080ti is still a monster, I'm upgrading because I need a HDMi 2.1 gpu so I can properly use 120hz and Gsync on my 4K tv.

choosing to remain at 60hz would be painful after tasting what 120hz smoothness feels like

its looking like NVIDIA might trounce amd and their big navi, if rumours are correct 3080ti performance and probable large die size could cost more than 2080ti. But realistically how much more could NVIDIA increase the price given the current economic climate which is projected to last for next year at least.

if they increase prices to £1200 rrp and with custom cards topping £1500-1700 who could buy these at such prices?

not long left before we know the answer just worried we might not like it much, if its that expensive I am buying ps5 and calling it day.

You say that but i bet you will still see a hell lot of people buying the latest £1000+ mobile phones ;)

If someone wants something bad enough they usually find the money for it somehow

The difference being that the vast majority of people buy the phones on contract rather than SIM-free.

However, UK folks wanting a GPU to last them a couple of years do still have the option of 0% finance...
