What does that mean though? A 1080Ti will go beyond 2Ghz if you keep it cool enough and up the power limit. Is that info just a maximum possible spec or what they're routinely doing?

<2.1Ghz is similar to Turing, maybe 100Mhz (5%) higher

The memory is more impressive, 19Gb/s is 500Mb/s higher than Turing, (35%)

Memory on its own doesn't scale well, about 0.3, with the same shader as the 2080 this would be about 15% faster.

The 2080 has 2944 Shaders
The 2080TI has 4352 Shaders (+47%) it also has a 352Bit bus vs 256Bit on the 2080 (+37%) According to TPU the 2080TI is 30% faster at 4K https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-2080-ti-founders-edition/33.html

with 47% more Shaders and 37% higher bandwidth that's about 0.7 scaling.

So all things being equal the RTX 3080 would be about 10% faster than the 2080, still 20% slower than the 2080TI.

In simple terms the 3080 needs about the same number of Shaders to match the 2080TI. About 5600 Shaders to be 20% faster than a 2080TI.

I didn't buy a 2000 series purely on the fact that they decided to offer the weakest performance increase in recent history, yet had the biggest price increase in recent history. I don't support that, so I didn't buy. The money for a 2080Ti was sitting there waiting, and still is. If they do the same this time around, then I'll refuse to buy again. I fail to see how this is so hard to grasp. It is not as simple as "can I afford it or not"

Yep, same here. It was clever play by Nvidia tho - they did not want to sell new 2000 series to 1000 owners, but to those who were sitting 1000 series out.

I just don't think Nvidia can "Blow away" the 2000 series, i think at best the second tier card will be around 2080TI + 0 to 10% with the highest tier about 30% to 40% faster than the 2080TI.

Raytracing will probably be much better than Turing and that is where Nvidia will concentrate their marketing.

To gain 70% over a 2080TI at the same clock speed it would need 9000 Shaders and 1Tb/s memory bandwidth, that's not happening, certainly not on anything from Samsung.

They don't need to make it better than that though, do they? They've proven that with the 20 series of cards, the added a new feature that has been almost useless for most of its life so far and the card still sold in droves, then they just tweaked it and released new versions with the 'Super' moniker when AMD even got a whiff of getting close.

Why won't they just do that again this time? They can make each generation last longer and charge more per card, the smaller the bumps in performance, the more they make over the total term of the generation of cards.

Heck Nvidia could release a 10% uplift over a 2080Ti and it would still be the best card out, so people would buy that, if in the market at that end.

I had precisely this issue on my 6990s and my 295x2s. Really capable cards prematurely retired due to skimping on VRAM. Not saying it happens often but I've definitely experienced it. Fury X had the same issue at 4K vs 980ti iirc.
