NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

I’ve pretty much made my mind up already. Nvidia won’t get a penny from me I’ll wait to see what Amd bring, hopefully a new 5700xt equivalent but I won’t pay more than £400.

Failing that I’ll buy a ps5. Pc gaming is not as important to me as it once was, plenty of commitments that take a higher priority these days.

Never thought I'd say this, never had a console in my life.
But I'm tempted to get either the xbsx or ps5 instead of being abused by nvidia

The worst bit is that no matter what the price. No matter how obscene and damaging to the whole PC gaming ecosystem. You will get those who pre-order and contribute to the demise of our hobby.
It’s my money, I worked hard for it and will spend it how I want! :p

Prices for the top end bikes have but a decent usable light bike for general use is relatively cheap and much better specced than 20 years ago.
20 years I was riding an aluminium frame made from Dedacciai SC61 tubing with a Campag Record 10 speed groupset. Record 10 speed has stood the test of time and is competitive even today.

Same here.

Check out the game pass from Xbox live, it would mean the best of both worlds as you could still be using your PC for gaming. Cloud gaming on phone/tablet too, although I'm not sure how good that would be.

I can't see how Nvdia's £1k+ GPUs can compete with that.

I've got an Asus Strix 1080Ti in one PC and a Asus Strix 2070S in the other. According to eBay, I can get nearly £450 for each of them. Very tempted to sell them for a good price and then look to get a 3070 or possibly a 3080, depending on price. We game at 3440x1440 so need some decent GPU grunt.

I've felt this pull a few times recently and I have a PS4 and even bought a Stadia in the hope that it would replace the requirement to spend silly money on the graphics card treadmill...

But I always end up coming back to my PC. A big part is that I prefer FPS and RPG and I've never got on with playing FPS on a controller after years of KB+M. I was painfully awful at Doom Eternal on Stadia. Also I like playing console games on the sofa and a big screen but there's no guarantee I'll have it to myself...

I'll have some spare cash with bonus from work due, refund of the deposit on my rented flat and stamp duty holiday, so I'm inclined to up my PC build budget, in a sort of mild midlife crisis...even though I loathe how ridiculous hardware has become. Spending 600 quid on a 1080FE 4 years ago felt a step too far and it's only gone north since then.

LOL at the people that say if there priced to high i just buy a console...
PC gaming can't mean that much at all to them..

I have spend thousands on building my PC gaming rig setup, Monitor, Mice, Speakers, PC Chair etc and have thousands of pounds worth of PC games and there no way i could think ok i just buy a console if these new GPU's are highly priced

Also a person doesn't need to upgrade their rig to play games they already own, assuming they already run okay.

It doesn't mean they'll abandon their currently working PC!

If like me, it'll mean just using my current PC for all the backlog of older games I haven't got through yet, and as long as it doesn't break, then no new money will be spent on it until absolutely necessary. Meanwhile I will use a proportion of my "luxury" savings to get a PS5/XBSX and enjoy any new releases on those.

Rumour mill time, this is coming from motherboard manufacturers.

Everyone who owns a PCIE4 AMD motherboard is going to be happy, Intel owners who do not are going to be sad face.

So apparently some of the new RTX3000 cards are able to saturate PCIE 3.0 x16. Now because Intel currently has no desktop CPU that supports pcie4, this means RTX3000 GPUs will run faster on AMD x570 systems and B550 systems.

Rocket Lake S from Intel was suppose to launch at the end of this year so Intel owners could get maximum benefit from RTx3000 but now they cannot - they will have to wait while AMD systems will have higher GPU performance

Hardware Unboxed is fully buying into the PCIe4 rumours.

They have decided to retire their 10900k benchmarking PC. From now on all GPU benchmarks will be done on a 3950x PC so that the next gen GPU has full access to PCIE4 bandwidth and is not bottlenecked on the Intel PC

Hahahaha. I said that ages ago when the debate was raging over buying a B450 Tomahawk Max or an X570 board. With people saying it will be years and years before PCIe3 will be saturated. Lolz.

Do you have a link to this?

While with the increased use of streaming resources and data/command concurrency, etc. bus bandwidth will see higher utilisation the biggest hit from not having fast enough PCI-e bandwidth with GPUs is still game load time when data is being uploaded to the GPU - it is far too slow to be moving a lot of data back and forth over it while rendering a game.

Pc gaming doesn’t mean that much to me I’m afraid. I can take it or leave it and lately I’ve been more inclined to leave it. I can afford to buy a new graphics card I just don’t want too.

To put it into context I paid £900 for a weeks holiday for me and my girlfriend to go Greece. That’s something we will both benefit from and will remember for many years to come. A gpu is something only I will benefit from and even then I don’t need to spend £900 to have fun playing games.
