NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

This is bound to cause some controversy :)

It's designed to cause controversy, that's why. PC Gamer are and always were a company with poor writers.

There is a reason why I read PC Zone back in the days (and not just for pre black mirror Charlie)

Yup, I doubt there are many people in this thread who remember those heady days of PC gaming and journalism. I think the first issue I ever bought was number 17 when Mechwarrior 2 was featured. The humour and tone of the magazine was really something special and Charlie Brooker had me in stitches. I would even go as far to say that it had a heavy influence on my own development in terms of writing and humour at the time. :)

It was the Klingon Honour Guard review and demo that got me into it

I skimmed over that, its typical PcGamer, hyperbolic title while the substance is long rambling vanilla content about what Ray Tracing is, exactly that which has been written a thousand times before...

Admitidly i only skimmed over it, because i cannot be bothered to read what everyone else has already written, but i didn't see anything at all that justifies the title of the article.

It seems to me PcGamer click bait.

Same, it's just saying "well there still aren't many games" and "Other techniques look pretty good".
Was RTX overhyped and expensive? Yeah probably.
Does that mean that raytracing, as a technique, is "a scam"? Really no, and even the article doesn't seem to claim that.

People are just realising this....? lol

I've seen plenty rasterized games that look better than RT games. It's just not that impressive or important. I see it as another graphics slider like ambient ocluison.

erm its a fundamentally different way/tool to render a 3d image not just a slider

yes. yes it is.
And the end result is, it looks like you've adjusted a "lighting and reflection" slider.

It's just not worth.

People said the same about pixel and vertex shaders back in the day and look where we are.

There is some stuff that's just impossible with rasterization and at some point would just be slower

Just had an email from MSI about an event or something dated 3rd September, wonder if it's about the new cards?

I just got that sent to my "professional" email account.

"When the world is upside-down. The changing workforce requires better tool to help. Join MSI at the virtual summit on Thursday, Sep. 3.You will see our first-ever line of high-performance products with exciting features that lead you to succeed."

That's really bad grammar actually!

I guess they're trying to move out of being a brand solely for gamers?
