NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

But there was no big marketing pushes for previous launches, the cards just arrived. The simple reason NVIDIA outsell amd in cards is due to the legacy of "bad drivers" continuing to haunt amd from the late 90's.

Let's not forget the latest 'black screen special' they've been suffering from this last few quarters. That alone will push people towards nVidia (and why 1080Ti's are still worth more second-hand than a new 5700XT!!! )

Don't. honestly im getting wound up about it. I was all set to buy the 3080 (price dependant). But I genuinely won't if its 10GB. It not future proof.

How long will you honestly be keeping it for?

I guess depending on things we cant foresee it could be as long as 4 years like me and my 1080.

But usually 2-3 years is a long time in the GPU space.

Ok @beany_bot Pop quiz maaaaaaaaaaaaan!!

3080 10GB comes out at £700 but has 'tensor ram compression' on nV supported games.

3080 20GB comes out at £900 and you don't need all that compression ********.

Which do you choose? What...do....you....do....?

Simple just don't buy the founders edition. They have already said that AIB's will be able to offer custom cards with varying amounts of ram.

Bend over and suck it up EVGA are coming for your monies.

There is no certainty until the event, Nvidia can change quite a few things I wouldn't expect much from AMD until end of next week tbh

Current thinking is that AMD will offer more Vram in direct competition with the 3080
Not expecting specifications to be revealed now by AMD, just partial shot of a die, pcb or shroud, anything really just to say "we're here".

Re vram, there's still the possibility that AIBs will offer 20GB 3080 cards........at a price.

So the 3080 will only have 10gb, ergo the 3070 will have the same or less.

Thanks Nvidia, making it really easy for me to pass on this series.

It seems rather weird,as they know they are launching before AMD,so why should you need to make so much pre-reveal hype, when it's not been needed before?? Maxwell,Pascal and Turing don't seem to have had as much pre-reveal hype.

Remember this pre-hype,for the "product reveal" hype. If its a product reveal, that means the actual launch is later on,making this hype for the hype for the actual launch. Did they happen to have a chat with Raja?? :D
Isn't because due to Covid they can't launch at a live event with all of the associated hoopla so they're doing all these extra things?

Yeah but at what premium? I mean I can see a 3080 coming out for £800 with 10gb which trounces the 2080ti by 34% but then Asus and EVGA want £1100 for their 16gb custom board 3080 which still only trounces the 2080ti by 34%........................

Like I said bend over and suck it up. People will stump up and Nvidia know this. This is the hole that the pc enthusiasts have dug for themselves, might as well sleep in it.

If 3080 trounces 2080ti by 34%, then why does it matter how much ram it has. As long as it has enough to run stuff (and if its 34% above 2080ti in benchmarks then clearly it has enough).

But does it? It has enough ram today in current games to trounce it but then you find out in 6 months time that its crippled and cant run at max detail in the next blockbuster games.?
