NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

That's exactly what it is, they're shovelling coal on like there's no tommorow. That's why the card is so huge with a totally new design fan and is triple slot.

If this was AMD's forthcoming top card it would be getting memed to **** on power usage and size.

If AMD's top card runs away with the performance crown regardless of power and size, I doubt it would be getting meme'd.

If you took a 1080Ti and you ran the same game at 4k and you utilised DLSS the 2080Ti will absolutely mangle the 1080Ti. DLSS is the best thing to happen in years, and it happened first on Turing.

Running the 2080Ti at a lower resolution than the 1080Ti *should* "mangle" the 1080Ti, yes. (That's what DLSS does..at least on the games that support it)

Yes it would. That's the power of NV mind-share, and the millions of fanboi's they have running round the internet defending the faith. It's like a 80/20 split on ownership.

People will say anything to defend their beloved totem tech brands. You know this, especially when that brand is de facto champ. Everyone loves to be associated with a winner, no matter what.

Apart from the power connection, I don't think the PCB is going to be a wacky shape; rather I think it's the cooler that is unusual.

The Nvidia video on youtube shows the PCB shape and it's whacky alright. Shouldn't be any more difficult to make a block for it though.

Does anyone have an inkling on likely availability timings for these?

If the announcement is 1st September, are we looking at Founders edition available October, then manufacturer AIBs in November?

Depends when the release date is. If they announce the cards on the 1st of september then we will be looking at an immediate pre-order and likely a late september release date.

A lot of AIB cards should be available same date i'd have thought or very close to release date. Very high chance 30 series cards are already in production with AIB's.

If these initial cards are all 8nm Samsung I'd say it'd def be worth waiting for the refreshed range in a year on 7nm TSMC. Time will tell all!

I'm still a little skeptical. The main ampere GA100 is on TSMC 7nm so be very suprising to see the gaming range on 8nm. Hopefully all this power usage talk is for the 8000+ Cudas :p. Time will indeed tell i guess :).

wake me up when there's something worth buying at the 400-500 price range. last time around it was 5700xt or 2060s/70s in that bracket. If we're paying > console cost for console level performance then will just buy a console tbh

Skimmed through the video. Cant help but think the talk about power and crosstalk was just a distraction to try and make an excuse in advance that the GPU is going to be quite power hungry. I don't buy the idea that in order to counter cross-talk across the PCB, it'll take so much power power that it needs a new power connector ... no, dont think so.

On a different note, a lot of the renders in the video showed the GPU cores laid out. I've not gone back and counted them, but would those renders be indicative of the number of cores to expect ?

I reckon reveal on the 1st, available the 21st, with customs coming 28th, what i'll be waiting for, another Gaming X-Trio with a bit of luck. :p
You upgrading? If they price the 3070 something stupid like $599 like crazy people keep suggesting then maybe I will buy your 2070S :p

I had the exact same issue with farcry 2 with the microstutters especially when i went xfire. It did scale nicely but the microstutter really put me off so ended up selling one. I remember picking up 5870 top tier card at the time for as little as £200 brand new!!!

I remember 7970Ghz edition and it was about £350 and I bought when they came down to £300. Cant remember the cost of the 7990 but I remember they sent me a higher Hz version than the one I'd paid for, by accident.
