I agree about Jen having the wind up him.
There was no 3090 in the initial leak. At all. It was the 3080 only.
I seriously reckon that Jen planned to launch a 3080 for £800 that is 15% tops faster than the 2080Ti, then he got a look at the Xbox SEX and PS5 and the snide farts began. It has been calculated that a really big Navi (like desktop Navi) would be as fast as a 2080Ti quite easily. I mean, that is the rumour as it began, but there has been lots of snippets of info to sniff between then and now. Like I say, the Xbox is nowhere near full fat and I reckon that is why Jen is going all out.
TBH? I like this from AMD. No BS, no "it feels the same as a Titan XP !" nonsense like we got with Vega. Just keep your mouth shut, don't make idiots of yourselves and come up with a decent product. It doesn't need to be world beating it just needs to be good.
BTW if his worries are unfounded then that is good news for all of us. Mostly because I doubt we would have gotten the 3090 otherwise, and most certainly not right now.
I can not remember the last time Nvidia released the high end card right at launch. They have done 80, then 70, then Ti. So they could get two sales out of the suckers who bought the 80 and then the Ti. Who knows, maybe this is a signal of change? I mean, there's no doubt that Nvidia have had plenty of problems over the past couple of years with Ampere. What if AMD have finally gotten a bit of luck?
