NVIDIA Demonstrates Witcher 3 With Hair Works – Talks Hair Simulation, Next-Gen FleX PhysX and Turbu

Dosnt look good although no Pc settings were mentioned. I can knock down settings to make it look like a ps4 game quite easily. CD project have never done me wrong before and the lack of DRM and free DLC means they will get the benefit of the doubt until Ive played it and can judge it FOR MYSELF.

Side note-Im a gamer and thats why I buy GPU's. As long as the game is good , Im not going to deprive myself of playing one of the games of the year. It seems never a week goes by without something being blown up on the internet and someone being made a figure of hate because of it

In short, developers are not happy that Nvidia are not letting them optimise the code for AMD hardware ?

LOL

That's what happens when the devs don't own the code - Nvidia does. If you're going to use a vendor specific third-party middleware black box, then don't complain when you can't get inside it.

CDPR could have coded their own physics hair or used the open TressFX code, but they went for Gameworks and are now complaining they can't fiddle with it. They knew this from the beginning, and that it was optimised primarily for Nvidia hardware and anything else takes it's chances.

They might as well complain they used DX11 and now code won't work on Linux.

This is a very good point, this game has been in development for how long? Must be a couple of years at least and its only now they are complaining that they cannot get inside the gameworks libraries that they have been coding for, for months. Talk about jumping on the bandwagon, anything to deflect the shocking lack of difference between Medium, High and Ultra in the graphics settings.

I thought nvidia partners could get the source code to gameworks? Pretty sure on that no bs podcast petersen and some other flunky say something along those lines.

However according to AMD, this did not alter the situation, as game developers engaged in the Nvidia GameWorks program were still not allowed to work with AMD to optimize the code for their hardware. Something which Nvidia initially denied but later Nvidia’s Tom Petersen and Rev Lebaradian admitted.

lol

They can, they are also allowed to optimise it for competitors, just not allowed to let competitors see the code.

Edit:

As I am led to believe :D

Apparently thats not the case with this game from the looks of it.

Well I wouldn't be impressed if CDPR purposefully gimped HairWorks to run bad on AMD (Like the Lichdom devs did to nVidia users with TressFX) but the rest has to be driver related. I wonder if Windows10 has it running better like PCars has?

Have to see when the tech sites get their hands on it and see what the story is i suppose.

Many times we've seen Nvidia put the lawyers onto any developer that has tried to use Nvidia code for ATI products. The code still belongs to Nvidia, and they decide how it gets used. Devs make deals with Nvidia to get money and have Nvidia write code, and Nvidia keeps ownership of said code.

Saying it can be optimised for ATI as long as they don't see the code is just a way to lock out ATI developer relations from the project. It's like offering someone (AMD) a share of your mate's (Nvidia) bag of crisps, but your mate insists he can only have some as long as he doesn't put his hand in the bag or any crisps in his mouth.

NVidia have stated numerous times that the developers themselves can license the source code if they wish but why would they pay money solely to improve AMD's products? and obviously they couldn't license it and then run over and give it to AMD.

NVidia have also stated numerous times that source code is not a requirement for optimising but a convenience, you can optimise binaries it is just a little more challenging which begs the question why AMD seem to need source code. Is it a lack of expertise or just laziness?

Well this is an obvious lie, why do you have all those Titans then.

As for the gameworks damage control statement, wow what a surprise "you agree". Keep toeing that party line.

Why is it a lie? Why would I want a game that looks good but has no playability? Do you even know what my setup is lol? Do you know what games I play a lot of?

You're panicking.
Gregster is right when he says the most important thing about games is that they are good games. However, of course it is always much better to have a visually breathtaking, well-performing game with great gameplay.

At the end of the day, yes what Nvidia is doing is bad because Gameworks uses closed, proprietary and seemingly very inefficient libraries. However, AMD should complain less and instead should be better at getting their superior technologies into games and they just haven't been good enough at this in my opinion.

I wish there were a competing, recently released big game out now (or even have both TressFX and Hairworks in the Witcher 3) that clearly showcased the advantages of tressFX and other AMD technologies and performed great to really bring home to people which technology is superior, but there isn't so we're stuck with Gameworks and that's a big problem.

I believe open technologies can be much better than proprietary but they have to really be pushed, everything has to be supported and coordinated well to ensure good minimum standards (this hasn't happened with Freesync) and they have to be marketed well and easy to implement in order for their uptake to exceed that of the proprietary ones

ITS LIVE!!!!

Restart steam, get a 1.3GB patch and your good to go ;)

Really beating the poop out of my 780's, average around 40fps, highs in the 60's lows in the low 30's. Gsync keeping it plenty smooth though :)
