2560 cores 320 bit 5Gbs ram would make a lot of sense is all I'm saying. There's gotta be a lot of Titan x cores that didn't make the grade and do Nvidia really want to go the super cache route again? Only problem for them is if 390x has 8Gb of ram..5Gb is going to look carp even if it is all you realistically need.

I wonder what difference the super bandwidth the amd chips will have over this.

Any graphics engineer people confirm / deny whether more VRAM can be utilised through higher bandwidth esp for 4k scenarios?

I don't know what to do.

I want to future proof my next build, but 6gb vram seems a little too small for 4k gaming and AMD I've had some rough experiences with and I'd like to go back to Nvidia......

Nvidia are ruthless in business, and they smell blood.

Was a similar situation with 3dFX. Nvidia gained the upper hand with the original GeForce, and when 3dFX finally released the 5500 Nvidia released the GTS, added a driver hack for supersampled AA and it was game over.

Can someone please explain what gap the 980Ti will fill exactly? The Titan X is not a 4K card... it barely manages it for the high end games, and a year from now I have no doubt even it will be struggling with AAA titles at that resolution. At 1440p, the gaming sweet-spot right now (and for the foreseeable future), it's overkill and a 980 or 980 SLI is more than most people need. Is a 980Ti simply a single card alternative to 980 SLI for 1440p, because clearly it won't be a 4K capable card when its big brother isn't.

Titan X is not overkill for 1440p, some games maxed out still drop below 40fps which is why I'm glad I've got gsync to go with it.

On the other hand the Titan X can be a 4k card for some people if they play without AA and knock a few settings down in some games. With a 4k gsync panel it will be perfectly playable.

The 980ti will just be an "affordable" alternative to AMD's new high end card.

When I looked at Titan X in terms of upgrading from my 980 SLI, I had to rule it out as I'd be losing performance. The 980ti could well be worth moving to in SLI if the %£ increase equals the % performance increase.

I think I could only jump on it if my 980 water blocks fit the 980ti. What's the chances of that?

I'll be keeping an eye on these. Should be a worthwhile upgrade from my GTX780. The standard 980 just didn't seem a big enough jump and only had 1GB of VRAM more. For 1440p the 980Ti could be a great card.

The current 980 is roughly £500? So that means the 980Ti will be closer to £600-£700? Doesn't this put it too close to Titan X territory to make it a worthy purchase? I understand the 980 prices will drop slightly when the 980Ti is released but enough to pay out the extra for the Ti? I don't think so tbh.

It all depends on the pricing surely ?
If it's around the £700 mark then a 980 SLI would offer more bang for your buck

If its less than 700 will offer more bang for buck than 980 sli.

but then you have to think about 560ti 2gb sli vs the 480...... was faster cheaper and more vram.

do you think nvidia will do that again ?

980 Water blocks wont fit TX at all, different board layout...........only air coolers will fit it, because it has the same CPU Mounting hole spacing dimensions as the 970/980

You would have thought with gm204 being a smaller core it having smaller mounting holes to allow for better pressure on the core. but then they couldn't keep reusing the same cooler over and over lol
