Release price of the custom GTX 780's were £549.99 when I bought mine, then months later the 780Ti was also the same price when released, the prices stuck in my memory because I was so ****ed off at the time.

Expect the same thing this time around with the release price on the 980Ti.
The cheapest 780 was indeed at around £550 at launch, but the price range was actually more like £550-£650, depending on brand/model.

I can see it being a Titan X minus the SP and DP with less ram, Would be nice to have a proper successor to the 780 Ti i.e full fat core with only the memory and precision cut and that being left to the Titan line.

Yeah it'll be gimped in some way, 7000M Transistors with most likely '4GB + 2GB super cache' 6GB Total along with 80 ROPS VS Titan X's 96 ROPS :p

We won't find out until a while after launch though :P

Personally I'm hoping for a 780 Ti/Titan Black situation with the Titan X just having the SP/DP and more memory, If this will be the situation then it's an instant buy for me.

I was really considering the Titan X but I don't plan on going 4K anytime soon as I'm only just now looking at the Swift as I prefer single card solutions and Titans were made to be in pairs :p

Titans were made to be in pairs? You crazy bro :p If you want best single card you get the best single card which is the Titan X, it still will be after the 980 Ti launches. The 390X might usurp it though, if AMD ever get around to releasing it..

Single Titan X + 1440P = Sweet spot ;)

4K 2 or more Titan X..

Actually its entirely feasible for the 980Ti to be faster than the Titan X, especially if the 390X is faster than anticipated, in which case Nvidia justifies the premium for the Titan X by way of the much higher VRAM and SP/DP performance.

I'm not sure the Titans even have the double precision this time around. Even harder to justify the exhorbitant price. It's a bit like an exclusive members club, I guess.

Titan X has no double precision to boast about so it's basically a very fast gaming card and no excuses from certain people saying "it's expensive because it's not for gamers but it has dp"

The reason why this article seems even more silly than usual is because the Titan X is using the full amount of die for GM200 unlike the original Titan. That's why you can count out the likelihood of a bigger version with extra cuda cores like the 780 Ti.

The cut down version of the Titan X will be left to AIBs to make OC editions as usual and it'll probably be fairly easy to match stock Titan X performance with a realistically decent OC like the 780 did with the Titan.

Let's face it, if the 390X doesn't outperform the Titan X there will really be no need for a "Ti" version anyway and the cut down TX gpu will likely do the job at a more competitive price point. Judging by AMDs silence since Maxwells release I don't think anyone can be very confident of them pulling it off.

The current Titan X is nothing more than the 1080 of this generation, it's a marketing joke by Nvidia.

The original Titan had 75% more cores than the mid range flagship (680) it replaced, 2688 vs 1536. Also DP but not that important for gamers.

The original 780 (enthusast full die size part of the generation) had 50% more cores than the 680, 2304.

Fast forward to today and we find the new gen of Titan has no DP and only 50% more cores than the mid range flagship it replaces. (3072 vs the 980s 2048)

The only Titanesque thing about the part, aside the price, is it has double vram, 12GB vs the probable 6GB of the 980Ti/1080.

straxusii I agree it's been a bad joke from Nvidia . Also I think the 980Ti isn't coming with 6GB VRAM but they will do what they did with the 780 to 780Ti and it will have 4GB as does the 980. I can't see them adding a 6GB card to this generation for the mainstream, the Titan X is another thing with 12GB but that's Nvidia taking the micky and trying to justify the high price. The mainstream 6GB 980Ti is nothing more than a Titan X with half the VRAM and so even if they do bring that out it will cost a small fortune again, but I doubt it will be 6GB but again a 4GB as was the case with the 780 to 780Ti (yes I know there was a 6GB 780 but they never did that to the Ti model because it will damage sales of the Titan Black as will the 980Ti with 6Gb).

Of course it's all speculation what the 980Ti/1080/Whatever will be but if Nvidia follow their recent launch history they will produce a full die 384bit bus part. Given it will probably be 384bit I think that means it would be tricky for it not to be a 6GB card (unless it was 3GB but that would be madness)

The 780 -> 780Ti isn't the same situation as 980 -> 980Ti would be as the 780 was already the full die size enthusiast part.

Of course this isn't to say it is impossible for them to just beef up the 2/3 core size/256bit part that is the 980 but probably not likely.

Surely a 6GB Titan X is the cheapest option in terms of development costs and also the quickest to get out of the door if they want to spoil AMDs launch.

Depends on how they want to market it. Would a 6GB version dilute the Titan moniker?

I think they're more likely to go with a ti. It's worked before. It will work again.

Yeah I did mean marketed as a 980Ti. Titan will be reserved for extreme memory. And I think they will want to reserve the 1000 series for the die shrink.

Unfortunately not everyone is sensible enough to see pass the marketing smoke and mirrors, and they are willingly throwing £200 extra at Nvidia simply because the card has been labelled with Titan branding...

But hey...it's business. Personally I wouldn't really care about people throwing away more money than they need to as it is their money and has nothing to do with me, if not for the aspect of getting a slower card than I should have for the money I am paying due to the artificially inflation planned and caused by Nvidia that's getting to me the most.

I'd probably be stucked with AMD and has no hope of ever returning to Nvidia, unless I want to wait for Nvidia cards that's way pass EOL like the bargain GTX780Ti deal right now.
