**Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti Review Thread**

Is this real-life?

This was my reaction to 980 Ti G1 review.:D

Now I'm really curious what Asus and MSI are up to.

That's pretty crazy. And confirmation of my upcoming purchase of a non-ref 980Ti. Beats the snot out of my 780.

Very excited to see a review of the Classified or something from Asus.

Yeah true, I've read that Gigabyte have fairly good GPU chips for overclocking, not sure if that's true though

Gigabyte say they use a "GPU Gauntlet" binning process for the G1 970, 980, and 980Ti cards. I'll only believe them if all the G1 980Ti owners can use that super high factory OC mode without instability though. Still shocked at the 1241MHz base clock in OC mode.

Never heard a TX that doesn't do 1350mhz (only 1 user that was running around ~1300ish probably needed more voltage) so the GTX980Tis should be the same. Most are @ 1400mhz on stock voltage.

If you're happy with the initial outlay then yes. You'll see a nice performance boost. Single card could be better than SLi anyway.

I'm facing the same quandary. 780ti SLI user here getting tired of SLI stutter issues and wanting one powerful card.

However, you're wrong there about a performance boost, 2x 780ti are more powerful in most games/ benchies than one 980Ti. I used a TitanX for a week on release, so I have my own direct benchmark and gaming comparisons. 780ti in SLI was faster in all tests and games relevant to me. I know we're talking about 980Ti not TX, but it's v similar.

V quick examples...

Heaven bench at 1440p, totally max settings:

780Ti SLI at stock
FPS: 71.8
Score: 1809
Min: 25.2
Max: 123.8

TitanX at stock
FPS: 53.6
Score: 1351
Min: 25.6
Max: 108

Firestrike Extreme at 1440p

780Ti SLI at stock: 8461 (G 9696)
TitanX with mild overclock of 100 on core: 7664 (G 8231)

I still don't think one card exists yet that is powerful 'enough' yet, especially as i have dirty thoughts about going 4k fairly soon. I don't know whether to just hang on until pascal or what. The Vram argument, (which seems to have gone quiet), isn't an issue for me yet in any games at 1440p either.

I'm now thinking about getting a couple of Corsair n780's (supposed to release in a few weeks) and H55 coolers, and clocking the **** out of my Ti's to tide me over.

Personally, the 780ti performs better, as you've said. What's important is your last point. From what I've seen the 980ti as a single card performs relatively well at 4K currently, I think in a year or so you'll need to go SLI to reach performances you want, by which time Pascal will be out. The problem with this is Pascal may/may not be a reliable card and may have a crazy price point, we don't know.

End of the day it depends on how happy you are at your current gaming level. I don't think one 980 ti will be substantial enough for 4K for long, if you don't mind being a little behind the curb you could wait for Pascal and buy 2 980TI on reduced prices.

A single card benefits over a double because of more compatibility and the option to SLI in the future. If you're seriously thinking of 4K, I would wait for Pascal. If you are thinking of remaining at 1440p for a good few years, 980TI and possible SLI then go onto 4K when Pascal has matured. It depends on where/how fast you want to upgrade, this is my personal opinion though and of course I could be sorely mistaken. SLI 980 ti will perform well at 4K, but then you might have this same dilemma on if you should upgrade to a Pascal, and thus the cycle continues.

MSI 980 Ti Lightning edition obviously!
Everyone start tweeting MSI that we want to see a different colouring scheme for once. Red Lightning would be nice, but I'm down for Blue Lightning as well, even Purple Lightning. Just please no more yellow themes for the love of all that is holy MSI.

Well on my 980TI, it turns out on my most stable vcore I can get is +245mhz. I am a little bit disappointed because I wanted at least 250. After boost my clock speed is 1466MHz, so around a 46% increase.

Will try with the memory now

This is using a stock gigabyte 980ti.

I think anything over 1400 is pretty good for these cards. You shouldn't be too disappointed, I'm sure at those clocks it's faster than two stock 970s.

Hmm, so I can currently get a Palit reference 980ti (in stock at a competitor) for £534 delivered on Tuesday (£524 with free 3 working day delivery)... to wait or to order...

Was gonna wait and see what comes in over the weekend/early next week but looks like stock is still thin on the ground, and the AMD new cards are being announced god knows when!

Can anyone tell me why my GPU is staying at max clock speeds and isn't idling down? I am at 1460/3801 at the moment and I am looking at the desktop I am using one monitor, I have no other programmes running except MSI afterburner, using power saver mode in Windows and I have power management in the Nvidia control panel set to Adaptive and I have single display performance mode also enabled. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled drivers

Open up task manager and double check something isn't triggering it. I've had multiple programs in the past that can do this.
