**Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti Review Thread**

I find all custom PCs noisy compared to the 2013 Mac Pro I owned, which is what I truly consider silent.

Also having owned the 4870X2, GTX 470, GTX 580, ACX 980, the reference 980Tis in my H440 are quiet. Mostly down to the chassis as well. Both in SLI have the same noise levels of the reference GTX 580 I was using after I sold my 980 ACX.

Even so, the only GPU I experience as noisy as shown in that review video was the reference 4870X2 under load; or SLI reference 980Ti's with a 1-1 fan profile.

This was the issue I had with the VRM fan on the 980 Hybrid, at load it was drowned out by the radiator fan and game noise, but at idle it was the loudest thing in the computer and annoyed me to the point I changed GPU lol.

The 980 Hybrid's VRM fan is noisey at load?, your putting me off getting a 980TI Hybrid now as I am very fussy about noise.

The reviews seem to say the Hybrid is silent at idel

As everyone has said noise is subjective.

I too am fussy about noise which is why I ditched the 980 hybrid. My PSU is overspecified and won't even turn it's fan on during normal gaming, my CPU is water cooled by 1150 RPM Gentle Typhoons which idle at 3xx RPM. So in my system the noisiest thing was the 980 Hybrid, I fixed this at load by replacing the stock radiator fan with a Noctua NF-F12 PWM.

However this then meant that at idle I could only hear the VRM fan, which at 1-2AM was literally the only thing I could hear, and that grated on me lol.

I would have simply added my GPU to the water loop but I was waiting on the unannounced 980ti to see how that performed before committing.

My 980 Ti's in SLI are quiet in FT02 case. Sounds like a desk fan on low RPM. Although I used CLEVO P370 laptop with 7970m in crossfire which were loud like a plane.

I am running FT02 fans on full speed as well. I cannot hear anything when I have any audio coming out of my speakers. I couldn't be happier and I don't understand people who say they need headphones for reference 980 Ti's.

reference ?

On the noise front I've got one of the SC+ ACX2.0+ EVGA cards and I certainly didn't find it noisy when playing The Witcher on Ultra settings (at 3440 x 1440) which should be pushing it pretty hard. The fans didn't seem to be moving that quick, though I think my case has pretty good airflow which probably helps reduce the work on the cards fans. So far I'm very pleased :).

I think it's because many decide to use 1-1 fan profiles. Then it sounds like a hair dryer.
As as most reviewers do, place the camera and mic right at the GPU. I mean who really sits with their head against an open bench graphics card? :p

I'm very happy with my cards in my H440 chassis, and my Corsair SP140 fans are still the loudest parts in my system.

I'll probably replace all the chassis and those rad fans when I get a 3rd 980Ti.
Some Cougar Vortex HDB V12/14H's will be nice.

That must be it. They can get loud with 1-1 fan profile. I have just tried for the first time. Still not as loud as 7970m in crossfire though.

What is interesting is that with 1-1 profile temperatures do not past 68'C on both cards in Witcher 3. That is on OC 200/200.

Yes, 1-1 fan profiles really do keep the cards cool. Although at the cost of usability. There's nothing I can do or have to block out that pure hairdryer noise then.

I'm happy with my cards at 84 degrees if they don't throttle the clocks, and say quiet.

You are right, cards were set to run at these temperatures so it shouldn't do them any harm.

At the moment I am running 1-1 fan profile without overclock and it keeps the cards really cool without a significant noise increase. I might switch back to standard fan profile later on though.

Yes, I am using two reference Asus 980 Ti's.

Ft02 is pretty much geared for reference blower type fans with the large intakes at the bottom of the case, doesn't fare as well with cards that dump heat inside the case. :) There's actually a part in the user manual for the fortress showing that blower style is preferred in the case, iirc there's a diagram crossing out dual and triple fan coolers that don't exhaust heat.
