purely from a noise point of view which 970 would you recommend?

MSI is easily on parr with it.
Infact MSI is better as its a thinner cooler design.

If I didn't get a Strix which I am waiting to hear back from CS can I swap to an MSI Gaming?

970 G1 will be a nice upgrade on 2x 5850's in xfire? Power consumption and noise appeals to me majorly! My 5850's get hot and noisy due to the placement of the pciex slots on my board!

Very interesting card, decent prices also, great review Gibbo. The only thing I'm concerned about ss the size of the 980's memory bus compared to the 780Ti. The extra Vram's a nice touch though.
