*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

ASUS TUF Non OC - Date ordered: 18/09/2020 12:49:16

02/10 - position 970
14/10 - position 881
23/10 - position 826
30/10 - position 749
06/11 - position 704

13/11 - secured MSI Gaming X Trio elsewhere for only £70 more than my order here. OC UK order cancelled.

This launch has been one of the worst in my memory. No I'm not blaming Gibbo, or any one single person; I'm sure this is not much fun for anyone involved! However, leaving the pre-orders open for so long and that thing with the Zotacs yesterday certainly leaves a little bit of a sour taste. I'll still buy from OC UK in the future, as I have done for the past decade or more, but I don't think I'll put them at the top of my list where new product launches are concerned.

Good luck to you all on securing your unicorns!

Peace and love

Just out of curiosity.. is there any price monitoring /regulatory agency for businesses in the UK or is it the law of a jungle? E**Y scalping is understandable as mostly people are private sellers but what about legit registered businesses which are scalping and selling these cards at their own prices? I know someone who was lucky to get the card at MRSP and his partner had to buy the same card almost 200£ expensive! From an "authorised reseller"

Yes there are regulatory bodies, kinda*. But they are there to ensure vital supplies are not used for profiteering, such as handwash and facemasks and food.

Aside from that, no. We have in this country a 'free market economy' which means that anyone can charge what something is worth, ie what people will pay. If they choose to risk a bad reputatation as a result, that's up to them. But many woukd say they would be stupid to sell something for less thsn the going rate. They aren't charities.

*and by this I mean not really. Businesses operate in the UK under permission of their local authority and/or central goverment. It is very rare indeed for these to step in if prices are being gouged. And they won't unless the public is in danger. But they can threaten then to not let them renew their licence. It's not illegal to operate as you like (in orice setting terms as long as you don't mislead) but authorities do have some capability to intervene in an emergency. This is my best understanding, I'd welcome being corrected by anyone knowing better!

I keep shooting myself in the foot.

Gigabyte OC just popped up elsewhere for £830, "oh no, that's far too expensive", dither for a few mins.... "actually it's fine". Yeah, its gone. I just need to pull the trigger

Looks like it @Bohdandy, shame.
I honestly had my hopes up for this week after the actual rep from gigabyte assured us, but I guess I'm just too gullible.
Never again OC.

He might have posted this without realising some % was going to prebuilds, although im pretty sure stock like that is completely separate, might be miss remember but something was said about that back in September.

I hope we get some decent updates before the dark of the weekend. :)

That's a wild jump in logic there: the queues are in the 1000s because people aren't told how long the queue is when they enter it. If at the moment of doing the preorder people were told "There's 3000 people ahead of you already in this queue, would you like to continue?" things would probably be very different.

And those people can just cancel and move on, and some do but many don't.

Price regulations and maximum prices are remnants of communism and enemy of freedom. Take that tihs to North Korea ok?

Unironically, this ^

What's more, markets are actually how we assess the value of something in the first place, let people bid against each other for whatever it is they're buying and that is the markets valuation of the product. Without free trade the actual value of any item would have to be imposed by some kind of central planning, i.e communism.

...which is a very well know phenomenon in retail known as "sunken costs perception", aka once they have committed to the purchase they feel that stepping back would be worse; there's a lot of psychology that is put behind this stuff, once you reel a customer in they are less likely to leave, not because they trust you but because they perceive that leaving is a worse off option.

well it is a worse option, because those of us that got in early actually managed to get a card for MSRP and i refuse to give in to the price gouging practices seen all over the PC component industry.

It's ridiculous. I'm 46th, according to this I should have gotten my dispatch email yesterday. Discord team confirmed to me that whatever got shipped to the store is now dispatched. Do you have the statement from @GIGA-Man at hand? I want to screenshot it and shove it on the discord and ask about it. I want to hear them say that he is lying. This is beyond a joke, serious company can't explain where the stock has gone. If I was a 5 year old I'd believe them. Makes me think, all the bum lickers here must be 5

Yeah it was here https://www.overclockers.co.uk/forums/posts/34203608 #22919

If that very large shipment of 60+ cards aren't being sent to customers that STINKS and more people in that queue need to make some noise with CS these are paid pre-orders that should be going to customers who have waited for weeks. I am awaiting my queue e-mail to make a decision before cancelling. It has been confirmed that 3080's shipped to OCUK are different lines and should not be going into pre-builds. This nonsense in seriously damaging the Gigabyte brand with their rep now seemingly giving out false information unless he can confirm otherwise and if I were him I would NOT be happy wit OC putting him in this position...

I'll hold up my hands and say that yes, I did link the wrong card (in my excitement) but if you use some logic then "very high" being 60+ 3070's should also mean very high should be 60+ 3080's too...

I'm guessing that since we've not seen much activity from him since, he may have had his knuckles rapped for revealing quantities (cos they were for pre-builds, depsite them stating they don't do this, trust is an issue now), but this is pure speculation at this point. If it's true however, then as I've repeatedly asked, where are the rest of these cards?

Impossible. My queue position did not drop by 10 places last Friday.

Also, where is Gibbo's announcement. Unless I'm missing something, the last one was on 26 October.
position 9 and 10 in the queue received their shipping notifications and I dropped from 11 to 2 in fridays update. There was no update from gibbo except the one that said there was an amount of most 3080s due

Finally!!! Ordered a Gigabyte Gaming OC at 12:02 from a competitor, dispatched at 13:55 for arrival tomorrow. That is service right there.

Goodbye Telegram notifications

am I right in thinking that preorders have now stopped? as no pink preorder on ocuk 3080 page now if I'm a little behind, then no change there!:p
asus tuf oc queue 736:eek:

It would have been nice if Gibbo would have announced that clearly. OCUK are not helping themselves.
