There's no point saying how many spaces I've moved for the Strix non-OC because I know there haven't been any in. Just a handful of cancellations. Beginning to think something fishy is going on. Nvidia, Asus and OCUK can't all be this incompetent. They knew Ampere would be a frenzy of demand at this price point, and they've kept promising that production would be ramping up and November would see loads more cards coming in but there's been no definitive word of any on the way. I wonder if there's something wrong with the inherent design and that higher end manufacturers are intentionally keeping quantities low because they don't want to have to handle large numbers of returns, or maybe they were so petrified of AMD kicking their arse on the benchmarks and everyone cancelling orders that they held off full scale production until the scores were in.
There are a few things going on. Firstly, Nvidia kept AIB partners in the dark for far too long. Gamersnexus claimed that their Youtube channel received up to date drivers before the card manufacturers did. This delayed the launch and caused some recalls early on. It certainly delayed the launch of the Asus Strix models, which was not available until several weeks after the 3080 launch.
Secondly, OCUK does not appear to be receiving a lot of Asus cards. It's hard to tell how many they receive because OCUK choose to be deliberately inconsistent, vague and ambiguous in reporting upcoming shipments and completed deliveries. OCUK's main competitor in the UK is much clearer and they reported the following numbers of unfulfilled backorders of Asus 3080s (all four models):
14 Oct: 957
22 Oct: 886
30 Oct: 827
16 Nov: 481 (I didn't look at the site for 2 weeks even though it is updated every few days)
20 Nov: 397
This data does not tell us how many cards shipped. As with OCUK, there will have been cancellations. However, the data is consistent with Asus' claim that there would be more shipments of their 3080 cards in November and that more of these cards would be available in the UK.
It's hard to tell how many of these cards OCUK shipped because they're simply refusing to provide the numbers. But here's what Gibbo told us:
24/9: Small volume of 3080 TUF due today/tomorrow
30/9: Small amount of 3080 TUF OC arriving tomorrow
8/10: We shipped a small amount of 3080 TUF OC
14/10: A small amount of 3080 Strix OC have arrived and are shipping out
20/10: Gibbo announces new quantity obfuscation table as previous labels were not adhered to.
26/10: A small amount of 3080 Strix OC are due Wednesday this week (this was an overestimate: my queue position dropped by 8, which corresponds to a very small amount according to OCUK's own table)
27/10: An OK amount of 3080 TUF OC on their way to OCUK
3/11: A very small amount of 3080 Strix NON-OC arriving this week at OCUK
12/11: A very small amount of 3080 TUF OC on their way to OCUK
There may have been shipments that were not announced, but I wouldn't know about these. I can only go by what OCUK chooses to reveal. Their own announcements strongly suggest that, contrary to the promise of increased shipments of Asus 3080s, their supplies have slowed down severely. This is not representative of the availability of these cards elsewhere. There is something not right about OCUK's supplies of Asus cards and both Gibbo and the Asus rep on these forms are very coy about what is wrong.
