NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

Nope, gash cooling solution compared to 3rd party and over priced. Don't intend to wc.

No, they are comparing it to the launch of the 980, which is the card the 1080 is replacing.

I have seen the GTX 680 quoted as well.

I think the 1080 is a bit overpriced but people need to step back and get a better view.

The 1080 gives slightly better performance than a 980 Ti and can be bought for about the same money as an up market 980 Ti.

A month ago people were quite happy to pay over £600 for a 980 Ti and yet for the same money a 1080 performs a little better.

Also to put things in perspective I paid around £960 for each of my GTX 980 Ti's.

If your living in the US and buy a card from OcUK the card would cost the person in the US $725-$750 depending on the exchange rate the bank/cc company gave for the transaction.

So UK pricing is not far from US MSRP of $699 really.

Just like if you buy a card from the US online delivered to the UK, then customs will add import and VAT charges, plus delivery etc. and again the final amount will be similar or more, with no UK support.

I understand ocuk does not set the price but i really do believe nvidia are pricing a £450 card at £600+ its just too rich for me to play games.

I am sure they will fly out the door regardless of price but i do believe this is a bad move.

There is no way a custom cooled 1080 will be cheaper than the founders edition, they are selling them as if they are special cards but they are after all just reference cards.

The problem here isn't conversion rates or online retailers, it's flat out Nvidia with their FE tax, or is it that simple?, imo they are very clever really because once the non-FE cards come out everyone will be rushing to buy one, it will almost act as a fake price drop and look like much better value, Nvidia have become geniuses at playing with people when it comes to the value perception of a card, the Titan made the 980Ti seem like a bargain, but I still think it was over priced but not many would agree, you get the same fiddle from market stall holders down here in the summer, it's so easy to spot.

I am confident these cards with additional power phase and hybrid coolers will overclock insane, the reference cards can do 2GHz plus, I'd be amazed if we did not see some Hybrid Classified cooled style cards close to 2.5GHz OC.

Time will tell. :)

I'm sure someone has asked this. Is there any sign of custom cards for launch? Such as EVGA ACX/SC, MSI gaming etc? Or could we be waiting weeks after?

I'm in agreement with everyone else these prices are too high.

I am going to upgrade from my crossfired 280X's this year. Planning on a 1080 and bought a 1440p monitor to take better advantage of it.

If these had been £550ish I'd probably have pre-ordered straight away. But with these prices and the custom cards not being announced yet I can't see any reason to order now. I'm playing The Division, Doom and Witcher 3 currently and they're running great.

Nvidia are possibly shooting themselves in the foot a little here. The advantage was all their's with what it seems AMD are going to be doing this year. Good prices for the 1080 and 1070 would have meant game over for the majority of the PC gaming market I think, but now at these prices it's only sensible to wait.

Wow, I sold one of my 980s already and everything....seriously considering surviving on one 980 for a few months to see what happens now. £620+ is just a bit rich for me. I was expecting selling my 2 980s to more or less pay for this =/

Unknown as they will come later by which time exchange rates could have moved in our favour or even gone against us.

If they were available right now I would expect Matrix and Classified to be just as much if not more!

Flagship custom cards will cost more!
High-end custom cards will cost similar!
Low-end custom cards (cheap blowers), will cost less!

People should be able to realise this, it is pretty much common sense, just look at our 980Ti pricing and bear in mind we typically sold the reference 980Ti's for around £500, only at the end of their lifespan did we increase pricing as I took decision to stop ordering those.

Absolutely, what you say makes PERFECT sense... so WHY did Nvidia even mention the $599 figure? They made out they were shifting the market position of the FE (Reference) so as to not undercut AIB's... yet that's EXACTLY what they are still doing because as you suggest the flagship and high-end custom cards will cost more! All Nvidia have done is give them the licence to charge even MORE, which they were always going to do anyway!! A cooler, quieter, more powerful and better OC'ing card is always going to be more expensive isn't it!? That's just common sense. If they'd released the FE at $599, we'd be seeing it around the £500 mark perhaps, with the high-end custom cards at the £600+ point, instead we'll easily break £700 now for the high-end 1080's, and the 1080Ti is now going to be around £900! This is nothing but corporate greed and Nvidia have shifted the goalposts massively and lied in the process. That's what irks me more than anything!

soon as their avaliable (after 27th) they will be much cheaper, good £50-100 im waiting on the EVGA cooler than buying mine. [also going from 2x980s)

Pound to Dollar rate = 1.45

$699/1.46 = £482

Add VAT at 20% = £579 rounded up.

Current average retail price - £615

OCuk profit - £36

OCuk profit percentage - 6%

This is of course on the MSRP.

They probably get it slightly cheaper which will be list price and volume price reduction. So wouldn't be surprised if they are making 15% profit margin.

None founders edition based on the above -
MSRP -$599

Cost +VAT after conversion and 6% OCUK markup = £525

So expect none founder edition cards to be sold on OCuk for around the £525 mark.
