Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

It's linked directly to temperate and TDP, so it will keep on boosting until either limit is hit All three of my cards boost to different clocks at stock.

1340/1360/1380 lol.

For 24/7 it makes sense to at least OC them to 1400 core over three. Easy pie.

Simply down to ASIC quality.

Just finished installation of the mighty Zotac GTX980 AMP Extreme Edition. Good god its a heavy beasty... my PC was heavy enough without adding those several pounds extra.

Installed with little hassle and ready to see how it chews up Mech Warrior Online as a first course before moving onto some Star Citizen for the main! :)

Thanks to all you guys at Overclockers for the usual great service getting this over to me super quick. I had pre-ordered a EVGA GTX 980 FTW ACX 2.0 but after seeing their delivery was delayed on Friday I decided to switch to the Zotac. Reading Gibbo's comments helped make my mind up along with confirming I had the space for this in my case. Rang up Saturday afternoon, got the order changed in no time and I took delivery this morning at work.

I'll be back with some thoughts on this monsters performance later tonight. :)

Best of all the cards I've tested, enjoy it!
Be sure to use Zotacs firestorm tuner and connect the USB cable then you can dial in +20mv memory voltage, both my cards are awesome memory clockers, the poor one does 8600Mhz and good one 8800MHz, Zotac is a beast just hoping they give a bios update to increase power limit and core voltage so I can go over 1600MHz.

Probably be lucky to get any bios at all

Are all Ref design cooling 980's the same size, as the specs for the MSI suggest its longer by 1.2cm?

That's the reason I asked my question above, I have a HTPC and need a Ref design card, also I have been offered a s/h MSI 980 at a good price but the specs say its 280mm long, which is too big for my case, were as, all the other Ref design cards are 266mm.

If this is the case I may go for the OC own GTX980

Anyone? Im looking at ordering soon.

Is a 980Ti likely to appear before a 980 classified? Think the classy is due November, will be making the move from 970's anyway.

The GM204 die is fully enabled as there are no more SMX units to enable so unless Nvidia glue on more cores a 980 Ti is unlikely as it would need to be a whole different core i.e would not be able to call it a 980 but rather a 1080, Titan II etc...

It will be unlikely for NVIDIA to release any more high-end cards this year, they simply have no need to do as they still cannot meet demand on 970 and 980. Once they do meet demand all they would need to do is release 8GB version to start the massive demand all over again.

I imagine the 8GB cards seeing as you said previously no one has any plans of making any, Will probably release the 8GB towards the latter part of the products life span just like the 780 6GB.

Nice, what rad space??

Nothing massive. A quad Blackice 120mm in the bottom and a single 120mm in the top right. 140mm would have fitted in the bottom but this was my rookie effort. I can run overclocked quad 980's at 1.25v in there with ease but the overclocked Tri-7970's were a big problem at 1.3v.

Well it seems I got a good 980, My strix does 1600 on the core and 8000 on the memory, Seems 3DMark, Valley and Heaven stable, Now on to games :)

*Edit*

1560 is the most stable so far, Do I have to use Asus GPU Tweak or can I use Precision X if I want to ? not too keen on the Asus utility to be honest.

hum,

my 980 g1 arrived ytd, with a bent i/o plate :S.

i could still install it, but it's not the best clocker, seems to bomb out (driver reset) in 3dmark at 1350 core (only boosts to 1466) regardless of voltage.

debating whether to RMA it.

i would mention it to ocuk/gigabyte support (gigabyte) may give some sort of insensitive to keep it the "broken" one but get some free stuff? ^_^

You paid for a new pristine item not something that looks like it was used to play golf.

As much as that would be cool to get free stuff I can't see them doing that.
