Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

bradUK: yep! just curious as i thought 1.25 was the max.

no plans to mod bios here! i have this 'power state' lag bug so can't o/c very much at all (like 50mhz). it's pretty odd, it will merrily furmark even at +150, but d3 bombs out on anything above 50 it seems - it tries occasionally to jump to a higher power state and fails to make it. i can see in the graphs that it's tried to jump to eg 1440 and that's when i get a driver reset. but if i leave it at +50 it will go to 1430 in a bench, but in d3 it never tries to go over 1230 (the base clock). so i wonder if it's just flat out a driver bug.

Tbh i do use my with G10 and X41 and while benching temp never go above 40C! While gaming is the same and fan profile is on silent. With performance setting on fans its max 37C. I didnt play any game yet to have provlem with max settings at 1920x1080. Its very quiet, low temps and best performance ever. Dont see any need to rush it to oc.

55 days to go for my EVGA step up program (went with reference SC version) and would love to know how the ACX 2.0 performs compared to it. Can't find any reviews of it...

Hi. I have heard the coil wine (or is it capacitor noise) when running one particular bench on 3dmark. It was running at over 1000 fps though! I haven't heard it on anything else so far (in games, etc.).
The PSU that I have is a 650W N/tech modular unit.
Regards
Steve

Now that I am back home, I've checked out the coil whine on my Inno3d 980 reference more closely and I can't hear any under normal use. I only get very slight coil whine on 3dmark when fps is well over 1000fps! I can recommend this card if anyone is worried about coil whine.

Done some testing.

On air, going beyond 1.22v seems to give no benefit, in some cases even worse. Going from 1.20v upto 1.26v resulted in 10c higher and 10mhz core less than 1.20v I'm thinking NVIDIA imposed 1.20v limit for very good reason. As on air voltage just seems to create a lot of heat!

If you can cool them, extreme prefered then voltage definetely works.

Be good to hear how others get on but test your max OC at 1.15v, 1.20v, 1.25v and 1.30v, see how you fair.

Also bear in mind by modifying the bios and going beyond NVIDIA limits the warranty is voided and if the manufacturer can prove it they will deny warranty.

Think I'll stay with the stock bios as I have 1557 on the core and 2000 on the memory with 1.21v max stock volts :)

Hello beasty! :D

Reference from Maleficent by chance ? :p

I don't like red either, but the MSI gamings are pretty much the best 900 series cards at the mo. Plus I need blue to go with my colour scheme and non seem to be blue!

Nevermind.

Will be installing it tomorrow after work and will post up some benchmark comparisons with my current setup (670 sli)

I don't know why but I'm kind of regretting getting the 980 and not waiting for the 980 Ti which we all know is going to come out on GM200.

lol

Even if a full fat gm200 comes it'll be more for benching then gaming. My 980's in SLI will be great for a year or 2. I'm in no rush to upgrade for a while. I've spent enough money already on my 2 980's.

Hi guys, long time lurker, first time poster! And I'm searching for a bit of advice...

I've seen a bunch of threads online about sanding down the 'Geforce GTX' led on the reference cooler to have it shine white instead of green, and I want to do the same with my 980. Only I can't figure out how the heck to remove the shroud from the card! (First time I've had a reference card).

I've removed the screws on the front and side of the shroud, part of it came loose (the grey plastic that surrounds the heatsink window), but the black part that surrounds the fan and led is still in there solidly. I then figured that maybe removing the smaller screws around the edge of the backplate would loosen it, only I can't loosen those damn screws at all lol. And I don't really want to try and force them from fear of stripping the screws.

Can anyone point me in the right direction with this? So far I can't find anything online which shows removing the shroud but not the entire cooler, which is kinda frustrating to say the least! I suppose I could put up with it, but my entire system is blue and black, and with a large side window the green writing just looks out of place :(

Any help from you guys would be awesome!

I got this on Friday :) Shinnnnnnnnyyyyyyyy

It isn't likely to be out for another 4-5 months. Also, they will probably milk rich and/or stupid people with GM200 only being released as the Titan 2 for a little bit (so it will be mega expensive).

I wouldn't worry.
