Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Btw i dont here any Coilwhine from my cards, when i first built the system and had the case open on my desk i could hear its very slightly. But with case side on and PC under the desk i cant hear any whine at all.

Playing with the bios, pixel rate is ridiculous :p

How did you get the pixel fill rate and texture fill rate so high ? Even with an overclock of 1556/2000 mine aren't that high

Ha, when you change the bios it shows the true rate, when you OC it will only show hypothetical on top of the original base clock.

That shows just how fast the 980 is 96.0G pixels, no wonder this card is kicking AMD's ass and Titan Black, it's a monster architecture.

The next lot of cards from Nvidia might actually be scary :p

He got it that high because he's a noob ? Damn it man now I must unlearn everything I have learned to increase my pixel and texture fill rates !!! :D

Lol, don't worry he thinks everyone is a noob, in my opinion it doesn't take skill to throw a load of money at cards and fit pre made water blocks to them, anyone can do that if they have the funds available. Real skill is in proper modding and overclocking. People with no budget constraints to consider are the true noobs, like the trust fund college kid or something :p

Teach me oh sir stick of booms ! :D

Is it safe to do it ?

New version 8.0 of GPUZ available I have just started a thread with the info.

It should be useful to GTX 970 and 980 owners for extracting the BIOS

Thanks Kaap :)

Yeah it's safe, tbh the only benefit is setting higher default clocks and disabling turbo, if you're happy to OC with software I wouldn't bother yet. You can also set power limit higher but then without proper voltage control you can't take advantage of that yet anyway.

I would flash when skyn3t bios gets released, with proper voltage unlock to 1.312. Then the extra power limit etc will be useful, and really push these 980's. I'm back on the stock bios now, waiting for skyn3t.

If you want to have a play with it,

NVFlash with certifications disabled > http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=28741252702707245981

1) Disable your display driver in Device Manager
2) Open a command prompt.
3) nvflash -6 yourrom.rom
4) Re-enable your display driver in Device Manger
5) Reboot

Enjoy

Done some testing.

On air, going beyond 1.22v seems to give no benefit, in some cases even worse. Going from 1.20v upto 1.26v resulted in 10c higher and 10mhz core less than 1.20v I'm thinking NVIDIA imposed 1.20v limit for very good reason. As on air voltage just seems to create a lot of heat!

If you can cool them, extreme prefered then voltage definetely works.

Be good to hear how others get on but test your max OC at 1.15v, 1.20v, 1.25v and 1.30v, see how you fair.

Also bear in mind by modifying the bios and going beyond NVIDIA limits the warranty is voided and if the manufacturer can prove it they will deny warranty.
