Nvidia GTX295 Information

It's been "dying" for a decade according to you people.

Consoles are the ones dying out, they're losing all their user-friendliness with constant patches, crashing and you even have to install games now. Playing MMOs, RTS and FPS on consoles suck big time. So PC gaming will always be top dog for real gamers. And graphics cards will always be in demand to power these games.

What is a 'real gamer'?

You need to factor in that making a game on a console you have to cut Sony, Microsoft etc in for a slice of the profit

Having said that, what the PC games industry does need is far better code optimisation, current PC hardware is well ahead of consoles in terms of power, yet games like GTA 4seem to need a computer thats significantly more powerful than a 360 just to run acceptably a version of the game that does not look massively better

Better coding would reduce the costs of PC gaming and make investments in cards like this last a lot longer

I hope console developers leave us alone and go rip off these kids. I could easily live with Stalker, Crysis, The witcher and World in conflict and in 2009 dawn of war 2, empire total war, starcraft 2 , cryostasis etc. dont need any terrible ports of overrated console games.

I will get a gtx295 and later a dx11 card because i want to have a high end machine that provides the best experience. We buy all these hardware with our hard earned money and push technology further and further so some spoiled kids can enjoy cheap, unreliable console hardware... if we go the whole industry collapses in a blink of an eye.

With talk of PC games losing viability (due to piracy, technological difficulties with platform design, and game console's growing sales dominance), high end gaming cards will soon be a thing of the past.

PC gaming is not dead yet, but the nails are out and the hole is being dug. Games Developers will put more and more effort into "simpler" and "more profitable" console releases whilst cutting back on resource/costs for the PC arena. Making games for PS3's, 360's and Wii's is much easier and the target audience for these gamers is now huge.

I heard the very same rubbish, a very very long time ago, it was BS then and its BS now

Um.

Okay...

Bar the Xbox 360 (which has terrible build quality) all consoles are reliable.

Plus, those so-called 'spoilt' rich kid's that you're talking about are usually chavs and teenagers who can't afford a £1K PC.

And I don't know what you mean about us pushing the technology further. The PS3 uses the Cell CPU, developed by IBM, which has nothing to do with the Enthusiast Gaming market and, technology-wise, the Cell is ahead of anything us PC users have. 8-cores on one CPU? In a console costing around £300? I'd say that was pretty amazing.

Best we have are Dual CPU 8-core £1500 Mac Pro's (or the PC equivalent, which is usually similarly priced).

PC gaming is not dead, and probably never will be. But console gaming is what pushes software forward.

All PS3 & Xbox 360 games are multi-threaded, for example.

I think you will find that a lot more PC games were released 10 years compared to now. There are now more console games released than PC games, and the numbers sold (like for like) weigh in the favour of consoles. Even main producers such as EA have commented on their Business Focus swinging towards the new breed consoles.

10 years ago a console could not compete with a PC. Nowadays, consoles can perform all of the entertainment tasks that a PC can do at a fraction of the cost.

Did you know that over half of all internet traffic involves piracy? This is mainly torrent downloads of music, video and PC Games. Apparently more people have illegally downloaded EA's recent Spore release than those who have purchased it. You are ill informed.

Myself and countless other PC gamers are pretty sick of arguing this same old PC vs Console BS. We hear it year in, year out and the console fanboys predictions never ever ring anywhere near true, so on that note i'll close this argument now by not even bothering to waste my time replying to any response. Your the one whos ill informed, all you've done is jumped on the wrong bandwagon without fully understanding that theres a place for console lovers and a place for PC lovers, always has been, always will be, simple as. PC gaming is as strong as ever. e.g i bought a xbox360 for when i was working away thinking it was a good idea. Wrong! used it once for 10 mins. My niece now uses it to play some pretend guitar playing rubbish. PC gaming forever!

What planet are you on? piracy has been around since the start of gaming. It doesn't really change anything. Oh and don't believe anything thats said about more people pirated this than payed for it cos thats rubbish too. Did you know console games get downloaded a hell of a lot too? Dude you need to pluck your head out of your arse, wake up and smell the coffee lol

it is clear that AMD hasn't taken driver development seriously enough and CrossFire just isn't as robust as SLI. Relying on a CrossFire based solution for their highest end part means it is necessary to provide reliable performance and stability across all games, new and old, and on all platforms. Making user defined profiles that allow the forcing of different CrossFire modes on certain games would go a long way to helping, but the real relief will come when AMD decides to fix their broken driver development model.

Wow thier negativity towards X-Fire is quite a surprise to me.

Wow, you shouldn't comment on something you clearly know absolutely nothing about.
For a start one core is disabled in the PS3 Cell for better yields, so it has 7. The Cell's cores are nothing like the cores in a PC CPU, they are way more simplistic. Infact they are not technically CPU cores, they are SPE's. There very good for streaming stuff and pacific things, but for X86 code a Athlon 64 would be faster than a Cell. The Cell is certainly not ahead of PC tech.

It's true and i've been saying this for ages!

Really? how about the ps2 and the drive failures? dont know anyone that didnt have to buy a second ps2 after a couple of years. or the ps1 that you had to place it upside down in order to play discs...

i would suggest you stay at the console forum because here most of the guys know what they are talking about. Cell can be vastly outperfromed by a cpu like the core 2 8400, let alone a good quad core.

Cell does not have 8 cpus but 8 SPEs which are very good for many stuff except video gaming. wont go into details unless asked to. Cell was extremely overhyped by sony and it back-fired to them. if such processor was so good and so cheap to manufacture why wouldnt IBP mass produce it for desktops pcs? Its quite funny that you talk about the cell and not the gpus, which are way more important for video gaming, of both the xbox360 and ps3 that come from ati and nvidia...

When i said spoiled i didnt mean rich, i meant they are spoiled because they get cheap hardware as a result of our support. where would nvidia and ati find money for research if we wouldnt buy every new video card they make? you think they would bother or even be able to make affordable high end hardware without our support?

One thing is for sure. Console gaming pushes shovelware games, overpriced downloaded content that should be there at first place and dumbed down games. countless of examples

Btw, sony and microsoft are losing big time this generation because of their choice of high end hardware compared to a console like the Wii. it is almost certain that the next generation of consoles will have minor performance increases and heavily focused on casuals after the tremendous success of the Wii. Dont forget that Microsoft and Sony are huge corporations and will go where the money is (casuals). Have fun waving your Psii remote i'll keep supporting the "dead" platform that promotes innovation and provides the best experience.

But why Early January Release?, gonna be lots of "wealthy people" around that time of the year - straight after Christmas:confused::rolleyes:

~Ant

I get the impression they wanted a november launch as they've done in the past plus they claimed they would retake the performance crown this year, so I can only presume delays pushed it back to january.

Its irrelevant how good one system is against another if people think its OK to pirate 10 games as long as they buy 1/2 every so often on PC developers will go elsewhere. What good is a system without decent releases.

There's absolutely no reason Sony couldn't add USB keyboard and mouse support, Id probably have a PS3 now If I could use my mouse in games.

I have had pretty much all the consoles from the atari 2600 up and not one of them has failed on me. I had more problems with my first pc than i ever did with a console but still love my pc as fixing the problems gives me something to do now and then. The console pc debate will never be won because each have there strengths and weaknesses hence why the arguement will never be won until some kind of middle machine is developed. I prefer to play games with other people so when mates are around i play console and when they are not i tend to play pc online with my online mates. I know you can do that with a console but i just prefer online on the pc.
