Nvidia GTX295 Information

Well at least it's not like the 9800 GX2 released about a month or two before the GTX 280, they seem to be following ATI's lead now with dual GPU cards being the flagship (at least for reasonable time period) rather than the last hurrah of an old generation before it's superceded

the only PITA driver issue ive ever had is my 260gtx deciding no matter what driver i use, its not compatible with a 1680x1050 monitor, meaning i had to go buy a 24" monitor with worse image quality :(

it won't be available by summer, the 40nm parts are due in april/may(maybe june-july) so they have no reason at all to make this in mass quantity or to keep it in the channel for long. It will never ever be good value, at launch it will be incredibly expensive and a few months at best from having a single core using less power, creating less heat and being almost as fast.

Simply if this card was out on time, 3 months ago maybe it "might" be worth it, as if it was available 3 months ago they'd not have screwed up 55nm and it would be cheap. Now it will be expensive and on top for such a short time its not worth it. SEriously buy 2x 260's if you want, or 2x280's, buying this is just stupid frankly.

Can i borrow your crystal ball? I wanna know who's gonna win the Premiership/FA Cup/Champions League and get my bets down quick! :D

Christ you guys are as bad as apple zealots. Except your meant to be smarter!

OH GOD NO! I can see it now:

Green Man: Hello! I'm an nVidia Geforce Graphics Card!
Red Man: And I'm an ATi Radeon Graphics Card!
Green Man: Hey, Radeon! How're you performing in Dead Space lately? Got all those good framerates?
Red Man: Well Geforce, after all my driver updates and hotfixes, I think i'm getting there!
Green Man: Wow, that's funny, because you see, with nVidia, everything 'just works', straight out the box!
Red Man: *Insert totally irrelevant statement about business or some other crock*

chelsea/Villa/barca

seriously though, both companies, ATi and Nvidia seemed to be heading for 40nm when it was due, which was around now, but TSMC delayed the 40nm production due to some delays on their end(and probably, not wanting to overspend too soon in this economic situation, longer you wait cheaper it gets and more you make on very high yield previous production line) is due early/mid Q2 09. I know this, because they announced it themselves. So around 3 years ago, when the 40nm designs would have gone into production their timescale would have been to have the cards out this year, they should basically be ready and are just waiting on TSMC to swing into full production. Nvidia "might" have had a delay with their screw ups getting to 55nm, but its likely an entirely different team working on the 40nm part and they'll likely listen to TSMC this time when they tell them how to make the die shrink work well.

Of course both companies could screw up at this stage to delay it, but screw ups are actually fairly few and far between, its likely both will have something ready and want to jump to 40nm the second TSMC give them the go ahead. It was reported the AMD parts had taped out the other day, meaning they are basically done, its said they were happy with results so it really is just a waiting game for them. Its a shame as Nvidia probably aren't quite ready for 40nm due to the 55nm balls up, so if it was ready(TSMC) AMD would get another jump on nvidia. THough again in all likelyhood had TSMC not announced delays Nvidia wouldn't have bothered with 55nm and spent all their time getting the 40nm ready.

mmm, might stay purchasing the 295, then again.... meh money money money i could have bought many PS3's by now lol, if it were not my love for PC's.

I can't see why you would, 2 260's will be cheaper and basically the same speed, and available now AND not be price gouged at release AND not be overpriced due to very low stocks AND be much much easier to cool and likely overclock a lot further.

Factor in price for a new mobo, time spent getting your system back to the overclock you had before, tweaking, stabilizing and suddenly the 295 possibly starts looking a bit more reasonable (considering we don't know the price yet, no matter how much you speculate).

Not everyone has an sli mobo, so if you sell your current 260 then it becomes a reasonable upgrade path and a card that will likely last a fair while.

If they come in at that price then i don't think it will sell well more so given Ati's rehash will be along shortly offering better performance but they will always sell a few to anti ati people i suppose.

With talk of PC games losing viability (due to piracy, technological difficulties with platform design, and game console's growing sales dominance), high end gaming cards will soon be a thing of the past.

PC gaming is not dead yet, but the nails are out and the hole is being dug. Games Developers will put more and more effort into "simpler" and "more profitable" console releases whilst cutting back on resource/costs for the PC arena. Making games for PS3's, 360's and Wii's is much easier and the target audience for these gamers is now huge.

It's been "dying" for a decade according to you people.

Consoles are the ones dying out, they're losing all their user-friendliness with constant patches, crashing and you even have to install games now. Playing MMOs, RTS and FPS on consoles suck big time. So PC gaming will always be top dog for real gamers. And graphics cards will always be in demand to power these games.

Not sure what you mean by "you people", but I am a PS3, 360 and high spec PC owner. Whilst I understand the benefits of PC gaming and it's "superior architecture", it is obvious that the trend is now firmly moving towards consoles. I am simply adding my opinion on the worth of purchasing a VERY EXPENSIVE graphics card at a time when games developers are MOVING AWAY from the PC platform. There are many games that are much better suited to the PC, but if producing these games are uneconomical they will cease to be made. Just check the sales charts and you will see consoles are now the dominant force.

Just need someone to make an anti piracy system thats worth something.
EA tried that with Spore and failed miserably. When you are tied to legacy hardware that experienced hackers know how to exploit you are flogging a dead horse.
