He later explained that AMD markets new cards for 4K, so I understood his point. Yet it's still easy to double the Vram.Anyway it is STUPID to discuss amounts of memory on those cards. As manufacturer can always double it.
The thing is. At the time when some people where buying 2gb Nvidia cards over 3GB AMD cards there existed numerous, though not frequent examples of when 2GB was not enough for some scenarios.
Now there exist no examples and scenarios where 4GB R9 290X would be insufficient.
There are plenty of examples where 4gb is not enough, some of us have first hand experience. Some of the guys using Titans regularly go over 4gb
I read PCper's review on 4K gaming and they agreed that AA was still needed to reduce the jaggies. Crysis 3 used 4.6GB (iirc) at 5760x1080 for me with all the details up fully. Not sure if that much is needed but that was what was reported on usage.
