** NVIDIA PRICE DROP: GTX 780 & 770 MASSIVE PRICE DROP!! **

Yes but the gigabyte 780 OC is faster out of the box, runs at 67 degrees, uses less power, and is quite a bit cheaper after selling the games.

Unless you want to risk how good a clocker of a 290x you get and you already have a watercooling set up, you would be a fool to go with the 290x.

Completely understand what your saying, the 780 OC is probably a better all round card than the Reference 290X.
I do think though when the AIB 290X's get here and if AMD sort out their Never settle bundle again, it'll make the choice between going green or red much harder.

In regards to the 290X and how hot it runs, i think it's been blown way outa proportion.

With my fan speed @55 which imo isn't that loud at all, especially when your gaming, my card idles anywhere from 33-37c and temps in crysis 3 never get over 85c.

Not bad really.

But i admit, those 780's look like a great card after the price drop, it's nice to see both company competing again:)

I was just comparing what is on offer. I take nothing away from the 290X and it is a good card and when we have the custom cards, I am sure they will be kicking some Nvidia butt.

For out of the box performance, I can see these 780's as a better choice over the 290X but that is just my thoughts and not that of everyone :)

The 780's a great GPU, now at a decent price. The reference 290X will need a cut to stay attractive given its poor cooler.

I (like a few others) just don't like the actual glee some people are showing that this might harm AMD's sales, or somehow makes the 290X a stupid option now -- when really it's just the 290X cooler that's the issue, nothing else.

Nividia's GPU are much larger, more expensive to produce, anything Nvidia can do AMD can better.

they will cut their prices soon. ;)

With all the different variations on cards, if we were to overlclock them ourselves, it really wouldnt change which card we get right? especially if we are will be watercooling them?

Yes, it's making the 290X unattractive - but that's nothing to do with performance. Given decent cooling on both the 780 and the 290X, the 290X would be preferable to many people.

It's a shame AMD didn't put in the effort with their stock cooler then. ;)

The 780Ti will be available by the time AMD partners release non-reference cards.

The simple fact is anyone buying NOW is better off going with 780GTX.

For water cooling, make sure you can get a block and the chip lottery will come into play then :) They all clock a fair chunk higher with a few hitting 1300Mhz quite regular.

If you want to overclock, get a reference one, sell me the cooler ;)and put your block on it. Just try to find a card with Samsung memory..that seems to exclude Evga and MSI , maybe others also :(

Sure, I just recall Gibbo saying he was pushing them, quite sure he does that with every product line also ;)

This.

Both NVIDIA and AMD will ask me what pricing I think they need to hit to have strong retail sales, I feed this back to them and I know AMD act on it and hopefully NVIDIA too.

All I can say is they hit the prices I asked for and even posted on here weeks ago, so maybe they do listen to me or I am just spot on at calling what prices need to be. :)

yeh the blocks on ocuk are in very short supply :/ most of them only have 1 in stock when i need 2 ! ugh

but that is great to hear, means i can just nab whatever is left in stock if there is anything left in a couple days

Good work man and I'm sure they'll have seen your price suggestions have been spot on at the rate the 780's are draining!

Everyone keeps saying Nvidia don't need to be competitive on pricing due to superior market share, for Nvidia making such a bold move speaks volumes, they must be losing considerable market share to AMD.

this morning they ask me what price points they need to hit, 2 hours later they tell me to move my pricing and that tomorrow I shall have a contract.

It is the IT industry, things can change very quick and I guess R290X launch impacted their sales world wide, forcing this move or they believe that their market share would reduce once 290 Pro was launched and as such are moving now.

I had the question pre 9am, at 10:30am I got confirmation and by 11ish I had made the post.

I also always said NVIDIA need to make a price move and always thought they would

Nvidia saw your 290 performance figures then realised they were going to take a tanking on Thursday.;)

Bottom line well done Gibbo and Nvidia in driving pricing down to where it should be-realistic pricing.

The 1 in 10 that doesn't agree and wants to take it down the usual route-save your words, 780's look to be flying off the shelf now with lots more inclined to part with their monies, the proof is in the pudding.;)

I think Orange just mean lots of us are sick of being accused of being AMD fanboy, just because we refused to get milked by Nvidia :p

100% this.

Because AMD has been the bbfb for how long now you are a fanboy for saying it's the best package.

It would be a 780 for sure going in my basket if making a purchase due to an all round better package-performance/features/game titles/pricing.
