** NVIDIA PRICE DROP: GTX 780 & 770 MASSIVE PRICE DROP!! **

Whatever. I recall seeing price drop across retailers just few months after GTX480 launch, I can't exactly going back in time to screencap retail price of the GTX480 in June/July 2010. That 2nd article is the best I could find to support my claim of seeing price was going down sharply despite not long after launch. You were the one accused me of making things up, despite you have no evidence yourself. I don't think I would go any more off-topic arguing with you on this subject.

Edited:
£409 in early June vs launch price of £440-£500 at the end of March 2010:

Now lets have the discussion back on price drop of current Nvidia cards.

Sorry I wasn't accusing you of being a filthy lier, just it wasn't my recollection :D

I don't think a card coming in at £410 in June supports a price tanking of the 480 either, they settled around £450 fairly quickly so an offer at £410 3 months after launch sounds about right.

It was more like 2 months and 1 week :p

But yea I guess the GTX480 wasn't the best example afterall. I guess the price fell quickly was more to do with it came much later than the 5870, and by the time it was launch, people either already bought the 5850/5870, and for those that had faith in Nvidia and waiting for it despite the delays, they were disappointed by the heat and high price (£130 more expensive than the 5870 on average). So both of this combined didn't make it an attractive product (despite the performance wise it was still a beast; it was certainly better faster than the 5870, but not "£130 faster" to most people.

I guess the above reasoning also apply for the GTX780; it was launch at average of £550-£620, and it is not "£250-£300 faster" than the 7970. And unlike the GTX480 which was launch around just 4-5 months after the 5870, the GTX780 was launched around 1 and half year later than the 7970. Considering the launch prices of both the 7970 and the GTX680, the GTX780 should really have launched at no higher than £460-£520 max or somewhere around there.

So if I have this right, we have AMD to thank for the price cuts to the Nvidia cards.

Of course it couldn't possibly be that AMD's priceing was originally due to the then prices of Nvidia cards or that those NVidia prices were down to the AMD prices of the time which in turn were due to the Nivida price.....AMD price.....Nvidia price....AMD...Nvida.....................So there was this goat herder called John the goat herder and if he hadn't of bartered down to two sheckles and a goat for that flat rock and blackened stick god only know how much graphics cards would be today.

nvidia 7** cards were a rip off, good cards, but stupid prices set up by nvidias own titan (marketing genius) even the most adamant fanboy can see that the price/performance ratio was skewed, not helped by AMD's lack of a top end competitor/and overall market presence.

Yes 28nm has been an odd round for Nvidia, they clearly couldn't manufacture the full fat kepler at the start but luckily for them the 660 could just outperform the 7970 when clocked highly so allowed them to call it 680.

Whether they are a rip off or not is down to the individual but you are wrong about Titan allowing the 780 to cost so much, historially Nvidia have always charged this amount for their top end big die single GPU cards.

The titan has had no effect on the high end pricing of AMD and Nvidia cards, it was a one off anomaly caused by Nvidia being unable to product the full fat kepler in any kind of consumer quantities so they released it anyway with a non consumer price just to regain the single GPU crown IMHO.

Yea but neither did the GTX480 nor the GTX580 launched at above £550; GTX280 at least got an excuse of having 512-bit bus size.
8800GTX/Ultra's £500+ price could at least be justified, because they were THAT MUCH (100%) faster than the top card in the gen before it.

while i think my order for the Winforce card (i ordered 2) I just seen a Palit 780 with Jetstream like cooler elsewhere for £365! Shame about the brand but it's all pressure on the Red team.

Its all good for the consumer

All triggered by the iminent launch on 31st october of the AMD R9 290.

Suggested to be $100 cheaper than the 290X and still easily hits 780 performance.

I think nvidia will probably have to shave another £30 off their prices yet. Picked up in the game bundle perhaps.

>>>Yeah, why aren't people waiting? it's going to be an even better buying environment very soon. I nearly dived at a 280x Toxic, now i'm glad I didn't, as we're seeing price slashes from both sides and I don't care about the truly tragic fanboi GPU wars at all, it's the saddest geekiest element of gaming.

;)

I'll buy what best for me.

Keep on slashing those prices NV!!! Keep on releasing price/performance killers AMD!!!

:D

Yep.

Waiting for 290's launch to shake things up even more. Then I'd decide to go green or red base on price: performance. Nearly caved in for the GTX780 yesterday, but in all honesty, would be better the price would go even lower, if the 290 does launch at £350 or less.

Yes the 480 was a blip, they couldn't manufacture it with the full 512sps they had planned so had to trim it down. On top of that AMD had released the stonking 5870 at a low price of £300 and the 480 was only ~10% faster at launch.
