** NVIDIA RTX 30 SERIES (3090 / 3080 / 3070) NOW ONLINE AT OcUK **

Do we expect the 3090 prices to go up just ahead of launch just like the 3080s did?

They already have, should be £1399 but most are now £1499+. Gibbo already said due to demand/stock they somehow now can’t ‘afford’ to sell 3090s at RRP. :p

Wouldn’t surprise me if they go up again on the day before 2pm sale launch.

This whole process has left a bad taste in my mouth. This is the very first time I’ve tried to get a premium GPU, neither having the money or the inclination in the past. Now I’m genuinely confused as to what to do next, cancel and wait for the 20Gb version (this really sticks in my craw, very unpleasant business practices from Nvidia), cancel and get Big Navi? Cancel and pay extra for a 3090 - but is the price of this gonna climb and climb? Cancel and wait to see what the fallout from Bignavi vs 3000 series and see if prices drop? Or stick with my pre order and once I get it stop looking at any tech news for two years???

Can't just have the fake "resellers" creaming the extra profit. If people are crazy enough to pay those prices then it's no surprise the legit resellers would up their pricing.

Well it's definitely the 24th - and very likely to be 2pm again, as Nvidia seem to always go for the 6am PT / 2pm BST timing.

Given that it's now widely agreed that Nvidia embellished the x2 the power claim, which is only relevant in a couple of apps, it might be worth considering picking up a second-hand 2080 Ti which have plummeted in value. That said, I'm not sure if the going rate has stabilised after the initial panic.

How did you come to that conclusion, are there comparisons of the various partner cards out already?

Yes reviews are out there already.

For example the MSI Gaming X Trio is a 3x8 PCI card but keeps hitting the power ceiling. Although it's possible it is capped via the bios but only has roughly a 4% lead over the TUF Gaming OC. These cards don't have much overclocking headroom due to hitting the power limit. Steve at GN went over this in his most recent video.

In practicality and actual real world usage the metrics come out as roughly 1 to 2FPS difference and when you are already pushing above 100+ FPS at 1440p in games a mere 1 to 2FPS isn't going to be substantial at all. Even at 4K with average difference between 99.9 and 101.6 FPS isn't really to write home about. (Based on Tech Power Ups average overall FPS at 4K for both the TUF Gaming OC and MSI Gaming X Trio)

Here is a couple of benchmarks for several cards so far.
OC3D's MSI Gaming X Trio review compares several cards - https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/msi_rtx_3080_gaming_x_trio_review/5
IO.Tech - https://www.io-tech.fi/artikkelit/testissa-geforce-rtx-3080-naytonohjaimet-asus-gigabyte-msi/ Shows that with manual OC'ing the TUF OC has a slight edge over the other cards but even still a 1fps difference at this point is grasping at straws.

My reasons for going with the TUF OC is mainly because of apparent build quality, lower overall temps, slight OC over the stock FE while still maintaining the same MSRP price point as the FE itself.

Ah yeah there was a new Gamer's Nexus video out ... seems full reviews will take some days but that stream recap one was interesting ... honestly as someone that gets very skittish at the mention of overclocking I thought the things he was saying (at least as my little understanding took it) about the diminishing returns as you try to get more power into them (and definitely wouldn't be wanting to mess around with mods and stuff) kinda made me feel like it'd not be too wasteful to just leave them at stock ... and so things like lower temps (room gets sweaty as hell even this late into the year) and better build quality would be what I'd be looking out for.

Those clocks just released for the Strix show that it's the only card announced that isn't artificially limited by the reference design. Looks like the 20GB variants will have more mature silicon and therefore better clocks based on the Strix design not being ready to ship yet and having huge clocks compared to the already released Msi Gaming X Trio which has the same clocks as every single other regular card within 3%. The Strix is over 11% higher clock speeds. Anyone that is making the leap from 2080ti (very small leap) needs to wait before sidegrading.

Theoretical question. Let’s say after the Big Navi launch NVIDIA and it’s partners drop the prices of the 3080 10Gb in order to compete with a potentially cheaper alternative, and my card that I’ve ordered is still on pre-order. Would OC drop the price I’ve paid but not received a card yet or would I have to cancel and reorder?

Those are a heavy chunk more expensive though, right? ... so in a most-bang-for-your-buck kinda thing (and not upgrading from a 2080ti but something ancient) then the 20GB variants probably aren't worth it, right?
