VRAM allocated DOES NOT vram being used. Please stop using gpu-z as an example of how much vram is actually in use.

You'd need to test for performance regression. That's the ONLY way to know.

Further to this, I would love if someone could run the game on Nightmare vs Ultra Nightmare just for textures (everything the same) and take two identical screen shots and tell us if they actually see a difference when playing. Also as a bonus maybe chuck in vram allocation numbers, even as meaningless they are.

I'm one who thinks 10GB isn't "enough", OK at the moment, but in 3-4 years time (that's how long I tend to keep brand new cards)?, probably not.

However, I was playing Gears 5 the other day, and AB was showing 7.5GB usage/allocation.

This is at 3440x1440 BTW.

I exited out and reloaded to the same point and it was only showing 5.5GB in use, so clearly there is a difference between what is actually required and what is actually allocated.

I am the same, wished it was no less than 12gb, 16gb ideally. But it is not a deal breaker if one like me will sell just before the 4080 is out and upgrade to that.

I will probably sell it in 18-24 months time if there are no major games coming out and downgrade to a cheap 1080Ti/2080S. Works for me as I don’t do multiplayer so once I have completed the single player games I want that need the grunt, I can sell :D
 
Was going to buy at launch but think for the sake of a month i will wait for RDNA2. I also think RDNA 2 (which i think will be comparable with 3080)will be when the 3080ti is released to.

If you had 49" and larger 4k IPS TV you might see the details with your face in it. But of the times though from games review High over Ultra is the best testing for looks + performance :)

Seems some forums think Xtreme rtx 3080 will go with 1815hz out the box clock speed ...

Exactly, this is again why I recon 10gb will be fine for me personally for the next 2 years. I am happy to go down one setting for textures on newer releases if needed, not like there is hardly any difference, one needs still images to notice the difference in most cases for god sakes. Yet for many if not using Ultra nightmare for textures they act like the game does not work or not worth playing :p
 
It looks about the same dimensions as my old Cosmos S -- the thing is ******* huge... if the 3090 doesn't fit, then nVidia are probably expecting people to buy a small house to use as a pc case :D

The issue isn't just physical size, it's the weight too, which unsupported might eventually cause damage to the motherboard. It also begs the question what kind of motherboard are you going to need to run two of these in SLi !
