You'd be amazed at the sheer volume of people that are making the statement that because only a small number of AIB cards are at RRP along with the founders but the majority are more expensive and interpreting that to be "fake news" on the launch price. We talked about this in threads here for months. Fell on deaf ears. There were some clued up people that held onto the 10*0 series cards as they knew turing was a rip-off. Unfortunately even the 10*0 guys need an upgrade now so yeah your right there is no 'cheaper prices', if anything due to short supply they will be more expensive.
It wasnt as bad as that from memory. there was the rumour that the 3080ti would be $1299. As it is there isnt one of if you want to call the 3090 the 3080ti then its actually worse than rumours at $1499!
The 3080 at $649 was a shock though, I think rumours had them at $799. But thats probably cause of the threat of AMD. If AMD really do have a card which competes with the 3080 and is priced less than $599 then Nvidia really couldnt get away with releasing the 3080 at the expect $799 price.
My issue this time is that the FE price is set on a very expensive custom board and cooler and AIB cards are meant to the start at $499. That would be brilliant if there was some cheap cooler AIB boards for under £500. As it is, I think there is currently just one AIB left at less than FE price. And the coolers look cheap as well!
So the list price is lower than expected but the price gouging by the AIB is worse than ever IMO.
Some AIB are putting £300 on the base price from Nivida. Thats shocking.

Gibbo says he had lots of cards in ready to ship.
Whether that is every card model listed on the OCUK website? I doubt it.
Will there be enough of every model to satisfy demand? I doubt it.
I know from the lack of responses from Gibbo, that the NDA is very tight.

@Gibbo Are the 3080 cards that are pre-order on the 17th, going to have an ETA for stock availability when they are available for PO ?
I think as the money is taken straight away for pre orders, its only reasonable a fairly accurate ETA is given

Is any one seeing problems anywhere with the 3080? I have a very techy friend who seems to be finding all sorts of issues from people regarding heat, burning out PSU's over heating NVME drives etc etc.
I can't find anything from people that has their hand on a card having issues? Think he is a bit sour i'm in the market for 3080 and he isn't

That sucks, my thinking is that you should only pay for the product when its actually shipped out.

So, I currently have a Corsair TX 650M PSU. Am I going to need to upgrade to 750w for the 3080?
Well they could have, but then they would look like plonkers when they had to reduce price 2 months after release, and all the early adopters get pee'd off at NVIDIA. It's happened in the past, and given the way the cards are priced you know that they've got information about how well the AMD parts are performing, ensuring that at $649 it is faster, but not much more expensive even if they did have to dial it up in power use terms.
The next few months are certainly going to be interesting, lets hope the early failure rates on the GDDR6X aren't as bad as the GDDR6 on the 2080Ti, especially from the AIB's who have such a plethora of coolers and power delivery on offer.

No a shop can do anything. OCUK have ALWAYS taken the money in full at the time you place the pre-order.
Thats annoying then that EVGA has slightly tweaked the board on their basic card. Was going to perhaps go EVGA and watercool it.
Looks like its the Zotac Trinity then for me.

My sentiments exactly, though it will likely be updated to include more cards so maybe the XC3 will be on there at some point!
EDIT: Is the XC3 not reference then?
It would appear not. Jacob from EVGA said they have based that card on the reference board but changed a couple of things, Which annoyingly means a reference waterblock wont fit it., GRRRRRRRRRR
