NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

Bit of a OT question but if a Paypal

If getting scammed by someone and I've used Paypal and I put a dispute in with PP, then PP side with me and I'm due a refund, who actually pays me my money back if that scammer has already withdrawn his funds? PP or the scammer?
Only asking as it happened to me (on a low price item) and I'd quite like the scammer to have to pay me back instead of PP funding it so he didn't get away with it :)

Believe paypal will completely refund you even if the funds aren't available in the scammer's account.

As the seller has to add/connect their actual bank with Paypal with official ID these days, they can then pursue debt collection with the scammer (seller) via the bank and official channels.

I have to say I’m quite impressed, my Vanguard ordered from a competitor yesterday late afternoon just turned up! Was supposed to be delivered between Monday and Wednesday so really a pleasant “surprise” :)

The card is massive and really gives a good impression when it comes to the materials used and the design/effectiveness of its cooling solution.

You can also clearly see that MSI made a real effort in terms of packaging and style to give an extra touch to this Vanguard “Launch Edition”. Still not sure it’s really worth the extra cost, unless you’re a collector kind of guy, but it’s still nice to see they did try to make it special compared to the rest of the cards out there.

Ok, time to install the beast now, wish me luck that nothing goes wrong!
MSI is topdog rn, you got yourself a special and solid card, congrats!

I've cancelled my pre-order for the 5090. After selling my 4090 and looking at all the benchmarks again, I've changed my mind and will be going for a 5080. It's way too close to the 4090 for nearly half the price, and other than indiana jones with PT what do I need the extra 8GB vram for? There's only two recent GPUs with more than 16GB vram that can even do full PT at max res/textures. I'll get the 5080 now, spend the £800 saving on something else, and see what's happening next gen.

Time to get on the stock checkers again, fun

Also, getting frivilous returns on the bay is pure bad luck. I've had a 1080ti returned for no reason, that was months before the 20-series. I've also had perfectly working non-GPUs returned for no reason, so YMMV.

I wouldn't accept a change in price while waiting for the product. The customer pays for the product in full at the time of purchase and the product is supplied in line with that demand.
Unless you were explicility informed at the time of purchase that the business has the right to charge the customer more before the product has been supplied then it should not be something you are obliged to agree to. You should demand the product at the price you paid.

The manufacturer should own the asking price which was paid at the time the supplier processed the pre-order. So it's not just on the supplier to make sure it's a fixed price.
The reason customers are required to pay in full upfront, is to ensure that the manufacture can accurately gauge demand and plan production accordingly. This benefit should extend reciprocally to the consumer, ensuring price stability.

Furthermore, it's unrealistic to expect the price to come down before the pre-order is completed. So the 'promise of the customer benefiting' should a price drop occur is meant to make customers feel like the system is fair which it's not.
Fair is fair, I would pay the price I paid at the time of order even if the cost went back to RRP because I wanted to secure the product when there was significant demand. That's the contractual obligation.
I am not 100% sure about business and sales laws but I think they can alter pending order price according to inflation. If the msrp is kept the same, they should not add more premium, but I tell you what. If they chose to do so, we can gather up here at this forum and file in a class action lawsuit that should last until our GPUs arrive and keep the prices frozen. :D

Dang it, I know Zotac/Palit/Gainward card as susceptible for coil whine, but I hope PNY won't inherit it. Palit and Gainward share PCBs, but PNY does not.
Is this the 5000 series of cards or in general? My Palit 4090 never had coil whine. Which Zotac card has coil whine? I have the cheap Zotac 5090 on pre-order which I will cancel if it's been reported to have coil whine. Please let me know!

It was someone in here with a 5080 solid oc.

Not surprised so many have it really. My current 3080 fe does, though the fans drown it out.

I guess it depends on how susceptible each individual is to the whine, albeit I must add if any of youse guys have a partner/married then you should be use to it. :P

My model is particularly whiney. No matter what I am doing it whines non stop...and I am not talking about my GPU either :P

There does seem to be some stock on a competitor site at the moment with 5 SKU's available to add to basket, maybe stock could trickle in over the coming days from shipments made before chinese new year kicked in.

I'm still not convinced on what this rating actually means, as it seams that some are interpreting a low score (5/10) as bad, yet others have said that is good. The wording around it on the site is pretty generic and doesn't offer many clues either.

So is 5/10 'better' i.e. less coil whine than 8/10, or is it worse because it is a 'rating' of lack of coil whine. Answers on a postcard.....

I think all GPU's have coil whine now at certain frequencies, voltages or FPS. My MSI Ventus 5080 has audible coil whine at 400MHZ+ but I can't hear it at the FPS I game at (100 - 200). MY previous 3070 FE had coil whine at stock voltage but not audible when I undervolted it.

Looking at the two 5090 reviews on guru3d, they specifically mention the palit 5090 as less noticeable than the founders edition with a score of 6/10 while the 5090 founders edition had a score of 8/10. So that tells me they consider lower to be better.

I'd bet a lot of the 50 series cards are going to have coil whine looking through their reviews, they all seem to have it to some varying degree.

All my GPU's in the past 10 or more years have had it sadly, yes. Could also be hearing related too though, I suppose.

You can tune for coil whine as you would for fan noise to an extent using clock profiles, FPS limits and under volts. It would be difficult for reviewers to give a valid rating because cards can vary even from the same manufacturers. Maybe Gamers Nexus would buy a noise analyser and do testing properly but most reviewers would just give a subjective opinion.

Edit - Also people hear different frequencies and are annoyed by different frequencies so they would rate based on their own preferences.
