Dunno, the lower end cards are noisy apparently, the FE has vram at 90 degrees and coil whine. Makes sense to get a better quality AIB, but yes I agree the prices are crazy - Paying £600+ extra for a cheap aluminium cooler and 3 fans is a rip off (which when you think of it was the price of a whole 3080fe)

Trio went from a msrp card last gen to a +550 card this gen. Nice design but it dosnt have a vapair chamber either.

I appreciate a lot of the AIB (if that's the right term) cards have custom cooling, to justify a cost uplift. But, if these 5080 (and hopefully the entire 50 series) are so good at overclocking, then why are the "OC" cards far closer to the stock values than the "potential"? Isn't that part of the premium over FW - a "good" factory OC instead of a small tickle?

From what I understand, the 5080 has a stock boost clock of 2617MHz - the Astral OC above is sold with an OC'd boost of a whopping 2760 MHz, but the review is able to extend this all the way to 3312 MHz (a 20% gain), with all exceeding 3150MHz. Given this has been achieved on all those cards then can we assume this is the norm and these cards aren't cherry picked golden review samples (wasn't there some rumours about "review build" PCBs???). Yes, I understand the silicon lottery, tolerances, needing to consider 2+ years reliability with warranty, and the need to sell an OC'd card that's suitable globally (with higher ambient room temps), but the highest factory OC'd 5080 seems to be Gigabyte's 2805MHz, which still has approx 14% to go - so why is there a premium on factory OC when there's a lot left in the tank???

It makes me a bit sick devil's advocating this, but.... From OCUK's and all reseller's standpoint, margins on graphics card are super slim. Normally, they can make costs back through volume. Volume was dire this round. Telling they didn't show photos of their 5090 supply. The only way they were going to make money on this was to bump their prices.
Even still, it wouldn't be rosy for them an in no way a winfall. Let's say they make 6% normally on these cards on average in profit after costs without any incremental pricing. On a high-end 5090 that's ~£150. And let's say they had 60 5090s (optimistic). That' £9000 for an entire launch, and even with incremental pricing doubling that figure it's not a windfall. It's a used, several year-old mustang, long way from a super car. That's not going to pay any bonuses worth mentioning to OCUK staff.
Now, there are other very valid arguments against this practice (other vendors have different pracicts to meet the same ends e.g. forcing bundles): lost customer loyalty/retention, lost market share, hype deflation. And I'm sure it will over time push people away from this hobby. But the jokes about "retail scalping" and paying for super cars is unmerited.

Nvidia has to manufacture a PCB. AIB have to manufacture a PCB.
Nvidia has to design and manufacture a cooler, various shroud and backplate components with fans etc. so do AIB.
Nvidia has to package the product with paperwork, cardboard, foam etc. so do AIB.
If an AIB makes a card, they don't have to pay for Nvidia cooler or packaging. Why should the AIB cooling solution or packaging be any more costly than nvidias own? It's absolute nonsense.

Pure greed from OCUK. Especially when you see the prices everyone else is charging. Why would anyone buy from them in the future? A very short sighted pricing strategy if you ask me.
Yeap. Suprim is not much more expensive than a Gaming X trio and weighs 721g more, so has a significantly better cooler.
Definitely the best air cooled card this generation in terms of noise, temperatures and price. Love the looks of the Astral, but the noise is just insane with the 4th fan.
In fairness, they are basically offering the chance of a better queue position, and a shorter queue, for a premium.
Some of the competitor preorders were open for hours. I wouldn’t like to be at the back of that queue…!
I’ve gone for the suprim liquid. I have enough space in my case for 2 x aio. It won’t look the best but my case is under my desk anyway.
Suprim liquid is a lovely card too, MSI smashed it this generation.
I find it odd people are blaming OCUK for anything, its not their fault. Its simple supply and demand that dictates pricing. They know supply was short so they upped the price and the demand was high. The problem is not them, they are a business not a charity. The problem, if anyone was to point the blame, is people not using common sense when purchasing, with TONS of 0% finance available to people who don't even work well you get the rest.
Rather than buy 5080 wait for AMD offering at the very least to compare performance, Unfortunatley even when AMD had a competing product nobody was willing to purchase it and hence you now have Nvidia monopoly and with AI demand we gamers are a after thought to them. Depending on how this 5000 series sales go, you can expect 6090 to be £2500+ RRP and £3000+ for AIB card.

Not a huge deal either way, but thinking about it you are probably going to have a negative air pressure case unless you have one of those rads as an intake.
The ideal position is neutral, or slightly positive.

If idiots are willing to spend £3000 on a GPU why not sell it for £3000? Fair play.
Not forcing people to buy 5090 @ £3000. Me I'll stick to nothing rather than pay those prices.
There’s supply and demand as there’s out right taking the p. Competitors had the same supply issues, oc could have charged just a little more but 2/300 was a joke. With the 9800x3d oc had decent pricing so I thought I’d stick with them for this gpu launch as I like the site and the community here but they ruined it for me personally.
To be fair to OCUK, they kept the 9800X3D at RRP for the launch, whilst others jacked up the price.
