NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

AIB cards are a rip.off.

Nvidia has to manufacture a PCB. AIB have to manufacture a PCB.

Nvidia has to design and manufacture a cooler, various shroud and backplate components with fans etc. so do AIB.

Nvidia has to package the product with paperwork, cardboard, foam etc. so do AIB.

If an AIB makes a card, they don't have to pay for Nvidia cooler or packaging. Why should the AIB cooling solution or packaging be any more costly than nvidias own? It's absolute nonsense.
Nvidia charges a markup for the gpu. If for instance nvidia makes £100 profit on every 5090 they sell to the aibs that's £100 less it costs them to make the same profit on the FE cards

I know, but it's nice to see how they stack up and differ. It doesn't always carry across from one gen to the next that the same specific model is still a good card, e.g., 4090 TUF to 5090 TUF is a good card.
Performance may be roughly the same, but I too like to weigh them up as temps etc can vary quite a bit.
The FE is like a damned oven compared to even the cheapest AIB.
Amazing engineering and that 2 slot cooler is sexy as hell, but it runs so so hot.

I'm disappointed with OCUK for this release, not because of stock levels (I blame Nvidia, launch should have been delayed a month), but because of other factors. This is speaking as a long term customer.

Guess this post will be deleted, but it's just my honest opinion.

This is definately true. As you can see from my post count i dont post often, but im a long time viewer / reader of the forum. I am based in stoke and have known and visited ocuk since its near inception and well before it was taken over. There is a loyalty to ocuk on here that doesnt make sense, just like any loyalty to any company really. They are all here to take your money, end of. If you find the product cheaper elsewhere, then get it there. Im after a 5090FE so unfortunately cant get it from ocuk, but if i was after an AIB card and saw ocuk pricing a lot higher than a competitor and i could get one from said competitor then i would go there.

When i see people defending ocuk to the hills, just because they are ocuk is mind blowing. They provide a great forum overall, sometimes they price their products well, but lately that doesnt seem the case. I always remember, back in the day, looking forward to visiting the store to get some new product, or build a new rig and thinking they were very well priced. Sadly those days are over, but thats what happens when the little boys get taken over by big corpo.
Well said.

@Nitefly Did you secure a 5090?

Nexus18 managed to get a 5080 FE so couldn't have been too hard to get. Lol.

I pre-ordered a 5090 Suprim :)

I’m pretty sure that exactly zero were available for immediate purchase.

As mentioned in another thread, it’s literally half as quiet as the FE and 5090 Astral when at load with the quiet bios. Worth it IMO!

I'd love to know how many Suprim pre-orders are in amongst the UK retailers in total, must be several hundred cards.

Hopefully lets MSI/distributers know where to prioritize stock, maybe it makes no difference at all, who knows

Hearing reports that the FE sellers gave away too many to people in the queue and ran out of stock for the online delivery.

Anyone got theirs yet or go the despatch email?

I’ve been trying to order a custom System worth around £7k. They can’t take my order over the phone and just get told to send a web note that doesn't get a response.

It’s bad enough trying to secure a 5090 never mind the fact that by the time I get an order in all my parts for my system are out of stock.

On top of that they refuse to hold parts you’ve paid for until the “out of stock” items come in for the system they’re building. So basically it all needs to be in stock until it’s sent for build.

Don’t understand why nvidia really pushed for a 2 slot design for the fe. It was a problem that didn’t really need solving whilst introducing heat issues.

There’s supply and demand as there’s out right taking the p. Competitors had the same supply issues, oc could have charged just a little more but 2/300 was a joke.
It is however people seem to be blaming the player rather than the game, retailers have no control over the supply that's 100% on Nvidia.

How much did that cost?

Half as quiet means higher chance to hear that lovely coil whine

but... but the astral is Astral is like 500 quid more. surely is must be quieter and make tea and sing and dance and give you a handy under the desk while you play!! /s

Seriously, anyone that bought the Astral is part of the reason we have 2 grand gpus. All that extra money for zero benefit.

Sounds a nightmare. I've learnt that you have to order all components in separate orders if there are any that are pre-order or out of stock, as like you said the whole order will get held up otherwise.

Though appreciate this is not possible if going for a custom system!

Fingers crossed you can get through to someone on the phone, as I'm sure retailers get a 5090/5080 allocation dedicated for SI (system integration).

The Astral looks the best 5090 visually by far, think is why it will sell well. I would have gone for it if not for the high noise (almost as loud as FE). That 4th fan noise really spoiled the card for me.

Suprim has the best cooler and is quietest, still looks great but not as great as the Astral.

If everyone just pretended they were due for release on 1st April, which is very apt.. and not even bother looking until then.. all the stress goes away.. and you get the card you want on "release day" ... simples :)
best way of looking at it tbh. my 3080 is more than enough for most games at 4k. just need to forget I ordered it (easy enough for me, my brain is like a seive) and it will be a nice surprise in a few months when it comes.
As long as as a certain retailer actually gets stock. (not ocuk)

it's actually insane. half the speed of a card that costs only £200 more.
I do not understand humans.
I keep seeing peeps referring to the £2000 price of the 5090 but that's not reality as they're all sold out. If you want to compare then someone who bought a 5080 for £1800 would probably need to spend at least another £800 for a 5090. That's the reality of it.
