NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Rubbish.

The 5090 is 30% faster at most, which isn't enough to suddenly not need DLSS and/or FG. You'll get a bit more performance out of a 5090 with the same settings but nothing that will make a massive difference to the experience.

For the record I get about 75fps average with path tracing and DLSS Quality on my 34" ultrawide which is more than adequate. Not everyone games at 4K and needs 200fps all the time.

It is 45-50fps with dlss quality at 4k ATM, some drops to low 40s at time. FG necessary with 4090. Can probably get away with no FG with a 5090.

I would say its not just about the games coming out... but also the monitor your using... With the 5k monitors coming out this year i would think they will make good use of it and also very high refresh rate monitors.
Most people use 1080p and smaller portion 1440p but still a lot more than 4k or higher resolutions. People who brought up the argument 16GB VRAM is already an OvErKiLL, refer to that fact, but surely people who buy 5090 or GPU with at least 24GB VRAM are presumably enthusiasts or at least those who push latest gen to play games in 4k,5k,6k,8k or whatever super ultrawide resolutions exist. These people will throw 10 grand at their setup without worries.

This is why, mid and budget builds are called what they are. They need to think about combinations and what they actually need. If they play in 1080p chances are even 12GB VRAM is enough.

It’s the 3080 10GB all over again, I had that at launch and was a cracking card for £700 ( I got slightly over msrp). But because of games like far cry which were AMD sponsored that required 11GB VRAM for ultra texture pack 10GB was deemed not good enough.
That’s a fair point although I’d be more worried with the 5080 as Indiana Jones is Nvidia sponsored.

Anygames coming out this year that are going to need a 5090? so at least you can say you have got your moneys worth i mean they are still using Cyberpunk to sell the 5000 cards GTA 6 maybe anything else?
I'm going to be playing Flight Sim 2024 in VR and 4090s seem to handle that OK but are now stupidly expensive second hand. Not sure I'd have bothered otherwise as my screen is 3440 Ultrawide

Is anyone doing FE stock alerts like with 3000 series on discord or telegram etc?

After failing to get a FE on launch day, yep. I’ve got time on my side though, I can be patient.

Whether Nvidia start shipping larger numbers of cards into the UK though is a different matter of course.

Did anyone who was in the queue with ‘Awaiting despatch date’ get an update?
I read here there would be an update at 13.00 yesterday, then 17.30.

Mine hasn’t changed. Still 13th (unlucky for some!) in the queue. Unlikely that’ll drop (unless they start fulfilling orders) as I can’t imagine the top 20 dropping out unless they manage to grab one elsewhere.

I sold it to CEX for £1008, I posted a few weeks back at the time I did it. I didn’t want to bother with scammers on eBay although I’ve sold 1080 Ti, 2080 Ti and 3080 on there before. I thought just go for a hassle free sale before the 5090 reviews were out in case the price dropped.
I didn’t expect them to go up and if people are paying over msrp for a card that’s not far off half 2 and half years old that’s up to them. For me I was happy to get a good chunk of cash for what I thought is an outdated card as it’s been discontinued and hasn’t got the latest AI tech.
In the end it only cost around £28 a month to own the 4090 as had it from launch day and it was 27 months old so can’t complain really. I’ve effectively swapped it for the brand new 5080 with 3 years warranty, so haven’t lost out that way. Although I was hoping to snag a 5090.
It might work out better this way as I’ve got the feeling and said it before that 50 series feels like a stop gap gen, and if they release 60 series in September or October 2026 we don’t have that long to wait so can grab the flagship card then. No point on super as by the time they release them, the new card is usually out the same year.
I've had my 3090 for 4 years and paid approximately 27 a month as well

It's not rubbish. Without frame gen and all that crap, you can't get 60fps with RT and everything max with a 4090 in 4k. See the benchmark

You're still making assumptions. Firstly that everyone is gaming at 4K and secondly that they'd use FG to raise framerates rather than perhaps dropping DLSS from quality to performance.

Making blanket claims that path tracing needs a 5090 is just ridiculous.

So I play with llm ai models and the reasoning models require a lot of ram actually

It's not a blanket claim. Read what the person said. They said if you play at 4k with everything maxed out and without DLSS, you ain't getting anywhere near 60fps with the 4090

Here's a thought - why does the 5090 have a 512-bit bus? Where's the logic?

They could have stuck with 384-bit and 24GB of VRAM and, with GDDR7, still got a 30% bandwidth increase which would have neatly matched all the other increases on the card.
As it is, the 78% bandwidth increase is completely wasted as the card is 30% faster overall at best.

No they didn't. How about you read what they said and what I directly replied to originally?

To be fair cyberpunk with the path tracing upgrades etc does actually need a 5090. With a 4090 you do need dlss quality + frame gen.

This is what he wrote which makes no mention of 4K and just blanket claims that path tracing needs a 5090 and and 4090 needs DLSS Quality and FG.

The update is on the landing page for the 50 series on the website.

Someone on here who is very low in the queue has had an updated dispatch date which looks to be next week. I’m in the same queue and it’s still ‘awaiting dispatch date’ with no ETA.

Sounds like I’m not in the first batch. Also sounds like they don’t have any stock of your card yet.

Re: Cyberpunk I’m pretty sure the ‘everything on, no upscaling’ benchmarks were around 20-22fps for the 4090 and 28-30fps for the 5090.

Obviously, nobody would play on either card at these settings.
