NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Flames are the new RGB

Its pretty exciting to be fair for 30 seconds, until you have to evacuate - imagine paying £3000 for a product to burn your house down  - I also do a lot of 12v electrics with campervan stuff & as a guy with basic electrics knowledge I'm absolutely baffled a company capable of making electric circuits with 100's of billions of gates & wiring on their chips - cannot get this right, its insane.

Trying to run the best part of 600 watts, at 12v over a bunch of multiple thin wires where its easy to get disconnects or things not plugged in right - and then not even build anything into the card to check if the loads are balanced (like they used to) is asking for trouble.

Is there no love for Inno3D cards or is the market just swamped with cheap 5080 PALIT cards? Listed my 5080 for £100 less than I paid 2 weeks ago (can’t return as from a competitor that only has 14 day return policy) had stacks of views 200+ in 24 hours but only low ball offers?

This is something I have also noticed myself, some of those teminals are varying at protrusion, which means the housing is also not good enough solution for the application. Apparently the spec for these cables is up to 50 insertions, then their function is not guaranteed. Imagine if USB chargers were 50 insertions specced... This just means they need to design better housing for the terminals.

Let's be honest though, the fact these plugs need sensing pins already tells a tale.

I noticed the varying lengths last gen with all the 4090 videos but no one really discussed it. I found it odd but at the time thought some engineers must think it's fine

Same price as the 5080 FE, nice. Not to mention the Yanks always have the best pricing. Just you wait until you see UK pricing.

*vomits*

So my 5090 FE arrived a couple of hours ago. Installed and all looking good and had it running a good hour running furmark, game benchmarks etc.

Felt the cable and connector and nothing untoward. Although I've got no proper equipment to measure these things.

I've used the included Nvidia adapter and 4 seperate pcie cables, connected to a Corsair hx1000 PSU. That seems to be the safest path to mitigate issues from what I've seen the last few days.

I did buy the Corsair 12vhhp cable but wasn't prepared to chance it for the sake of a bit more cable clutter.

My initial impressions coming from a 3090. Big jump in performance when you turn all the bells and whistles on.

Which is ultimately what we all want buying these things lol.

Now in terms of the difference I tried Indiana Jones and the great circle at 4k, no dlss, no frame gen, supreme settings and full RT and the 3090 could barely manage 20fps. The 5090 was sitting just above 60fps. Dlss quality and frame gen same settings was around 100-120.

Nvidia should at least start bundling these with the cards, you can have it on a stand so you can keep eye on it while gaming

I wouldn't say the palit cards are cheap when the 5080 MSRP is supposed to be £960 and even then most people didn't seem impressed at those prices.

That's horrific! I think I might just buy an RTX 4060/4070 and wait for some sanity to return to the market if those are genuinely the prices and they translate to a similar cost in GBP!

That’s true but they’re cheaper than what I paid for my Inno3D.

I think the actual amount of msrp AIB cards that are sold at msrp is in the 10s just to tick a box then they can charge up to 2 grand for a 5080 which is 5090 msrp!
