NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

I do.... but given my luck (or lackof), I know that if i spend £2,300 on an AIB card, I will there will be a flood of FE cards 15 days later.

Flood is a generous term, Probably like 3 :D

Personally I'd stick to the 4090, You aren't missing out on anything other than multi frame gen and Smooth Motion, The former which is a bit poo and Smooth Motion is coming to 4000 series at a later date as it's not reliant on 5000 series hardware.

Get more memory, Storage, Better headphones, Microphone, New case, Fans, Cooling, There's a myriad of things I'd get before swapping out a 4090 for a 5090.

Copying this over from the Pre-order thread as it's not really relevant being in there.
Done some quick preliminary undervolt testing on the 5090 FE card to get it to run less power hungry, cooler & similar(ish) performance to stock.

Unigine Valley at 4k (used for speed)
  • Stock - FPS: 176 | Watts: 553 | Temp: 73c | Mem Temp: 88c
  • 0.865v - FPS: 164 | Watts: 383 | Temp: 65c | Mem Temp: 82c
  • 0.870v - FPS: 169 | Watts: 407 | Temp: 66c | Mem Temp: 82c
  • 0.885v - FPS: 173 | Watts: 440 | Temp: 68c | Mem Temp: 88c
  • 0.890v - FPS: 173 | Watts: 423 | Temp: 69c | Mem Temp: 84c
  • 0.895v - FPS: 176 | Watts: 445 | Temp: 71c | Mem Temp: 86c

I have found MSI Afterburner a little bit finnicky at hitting 0.895v, even when you select the correct point in the curve editor, is seems to undervolt by 0.005-0.010, so I've not hit the magic 2827Mhz.

Going to do some further tweaking as others seem to have had better results, but that can be down to silicon lottery.

Till you smell grilled power plug, you mean? ;)
I spent the first week obsessively sniffing the GPU and PSU and touch-testing the temperature of the cable. Now it's been in for almost two weeks (most failures seem to happen in the week), I've chilled out a lot.

Well, as chilled as you can be when sat within a couple of feet of a GPU that throws out that much heat.

It has been similar to the 4090 launch, in that a few weeks after launch the burning connector posts on reddit have disappeared despite the massive increase is supply (relatively speaking).

Before getting a 5090 I was concerned about power usage, but with the undervolt they arent too bad at all.
At 4k all max settings, RT on, I get:

Delta Force 2647Mhz 240fps 66c 265w
Diablo 4 2655Mhz 325fps 59c 280w
Witcher 3 2640Mhz 158fps 64c 340w
Cyberpunk 2640Mhz 275fps 66c 415w
Kingdom Come 2 2445Mhz 180fps 54c 330w
AC Valhalla 2550Mhz 190fps 56c 215w
BF 2042 2450Mhz 185fps 63c 320w

Edit:

For reference my previous undervolted 4070ti used to get 80-120fps in these games at around 140w, on 4k max settings, but substantially less where RT was turned on, so with the 5090 I get double to triple the performance with RT for an extra 75-200w.
In the above figures Cyberbunk is an outlier at 415w (maybe because of path tracing??) and Witcher 3 is an outlier at a low 158fps because its had more mods than Quadrophenia

It bricked my H110i too, still super angry with Corsair about this. Never buying anything from Corsair again.
You know in 20 years of being a corsair fan I don;t think I have ever had anyting bricked by Icue that is becuase I refused to update the software since v4.x.x. Everything was working fine and dandy so I never bothered. Then Hwne they switched it to V5.x.x what was a small isolated incident turned into loads of people complaing on how it bricked their AIO.

But their most underlying issue is when they got bought out/taken over. Ever since then tehir quality control dropped, they are no longer the innovators, customer support is either to being truly great to truly downright awful. And the one that gets me the most tehy are no longer the leaders in memory like they once were. The very foundations which made them known where they sourced the fastest and best quality ram. Now you have gskill/ team group and a whole plethora of options.

This. I used to love Corsair. I also stopped buying their gear about 5 years or so ago. At one point I had loads of their gear. Now all I have is a Corsair mouse.

I remember buying some ram that could not keep its specs. They replaced it twice, which was hard work with their support not being what it was. In the end I brought different ram and worked as it should.

Shame.

Only Corsair stuff I have now is my case and memory. Their PSU's I had terrible luck with as they all sounded like a box of crickets. Their main PSU bloke JonnyGURU once told me "it's totally normal and unavoidable" yet I moved over to Seasonic and it's silent.

Are you on an FE model or AIB?
What CPU are you using and I'm interested in your voltage curve too as I can't get exactly similar figures as you.

Supply isnt high, it's all relative anyway - the rtx5090 is the top selling RTX5000 GPU currently, however the AMD RX9070XT is selling 6 units for every RTX5090 that is sold

This is why it boggles my mind when I see people claiming the 5090 is not efficient

In the last week I've seen people with the new AMD 90 series claiming how efficient they are, and often in their screenshots the power draw is higher than what I have on the 5090 even though their performance is a lot lower. Obviously I don't say anything because I'd get my head bitten off and they can under-volt their cards as well. But from my experience the 5090 is very efficient and runs nice and cool (apart from the memory isn't cool - 5090FE here).

Best not engage. You really would get your head bitten off. Their cards are efficency. Yours is a 600w monster! :p
