NVIDIA Volta with GDDR6 in early 2018?

My worry now is that with Vegas poor showing, is that likely to make NVIDIA not push as hard with Volta.
I mean we all expect the xx70/xx80 carrier of Volta to beat the current 1080ti, or at least be comparable, but with Vega being as bad as it is will NVIDIA deem it necessary to max out the performance, or jut say well that is enough for now.

If they aren't significantly better, people will just stick with their existing GPU's though...The better they make it, the more likely people are to upgrade.

Hopefully you are right. Would like a xx70 myself if it is 1080Ti performance for under £400 and much cooler and quieter. Just like the 1070 was to the 980Ti.

Well there always going to be someone who is happy to pay silly money for a 5-10% performance increase.

In March 2015 I upgraded from AMD 295x2 to Titan X SLI (Maxwell) and so far haven't needed to upgrade to anything better. That's quite a long time for an enthusiast.

In that same time I know people on OCUK have upgraded their TXm's to 1080's, Titan X (Pascal), 1080Ti etc

The money I saved not upgrading my GPU went on a new monitor and a 65" B6 OLED TV.

Tbh sounds like you are spending fairly silly money on cards anyway. Titan X SLI don't come cheap.

I betting beginning of april for any nvidia card release. Could be a pascal refresh because lets be honest it will be faster than anything AMD can do and they can make some dollar while only being bit faster.

Yep I reckon late Q1/early Q2 at the latest. That would give the 1080Ti a nice 10-12 month run at the top before the volta XX70 and XX80 cards come out. That would match the previous Kepler Ti -> Maxwell GX104's and Maxwell Ti -> Pascal GX104's timescales as well.

I can't see them rushing anything out of the door this year, other than maybe a refresh (though even this is unlikely). Vega's performance and price points mean Nvidia don't have to do anything which is really disappointing from AMD

Well if I was a betting man (which I am not), I would bet on March being the time we see consumer "Poor Volta".
I suppose there is no chance of Volta releasing before Christmas to compete with vega now we've seen what a damp squib vega is. Great I'll have to wait even longer for a decent gpu replacement:(

Vega isn't that bad but does look like a higher clocked Fury. I would say from history though, as soon as Volta is ready, NVidia won't hold back. They have gimps like me who like new hardware :D

Big up for the gimps!:D You help keep them on their toes & bringing out new stuff. For the rest of us that is most excellent

I'm betting around February for Volta.

Impossible.

GDDR6 production only begins at some unspecified time in Q1 '18, and Chinese New Year is in early Feb.

For any real volume you're probably looking at June at the earliest.

Though there is no suggestion that it will be, if GDDR6 production gets delayed, you might be looking at around this time next year for launch, or even later.

Shoot me, there is no hope. No gaming until June........nooooooooooooooo! I have come to hate my GTX 285

I don't think Volta will be anything special.

I'd buy a Vega56 or if NVIDIA price cut the 1070 significantly in response, then one of those.

Yeah I'd say June by the time DDR6 is ramped up - there hardly in a rush to bring them out given what Vega looks like it will perform.

They will be in a rush to get it out, because they will want as much of a lead on NAVI as possible. Pretty sure the so-called '12nm' will be ready whenever, but they can't push GDDR6 forward.
