NVIDIA Volta with GDDR6 in early 2018?

I don't think it is fair to say, true or proper Asynchronous compute, more like different. The way that upto and including Pascal have added it in is a bit of a fudge for sure but it is still asynchronous compute, just not as efficient as the way AMD or apparently Volta does it.

Difficientcies in filling the pipeline of GPU'S are different for both companies, I get the feeling that AMD'S method of doing it will look rather lackluster once NVIDIA get theirs tunned.

Problem is nVidia will pour resources into it when the time is right and it ends up being widely used while AMD will be stuck with one leg in an older incarnation of it and the other leg in a future architecture that is a long way from being exploited for its strengths - same old story.

Think I’ll put in a pre-order for a 2### card as soon as they’re announced. Only way to get in before the miners by the sounds of it.

I think gibbo is going to have to go old school on the manufacturers to get cards, "I'll remember how you treated me now when ASICs kill GPU mining and all the miners are gone".

Nvidia discontinued GP102 production, Titan X Pascal, Titan Xp and 1080 Ti now reached EOL.

Nvidia GA104 already in production since February probably over the last week.

Nvidia to unveiled GA104 chip based on Ampere architecture, announce GTX 2070 and 2080 cards at GTC 2018 between 26-29 March 2018.

Ampere GTX 2070 and GTX 2080 with GDDR6 launch date 12 April 2018?

Only rumours but I would rather buy a 2080Ti than a 1180Ti. Just sounds better. You are quite correct though and a couple of people got massively upset when someone suggested 2080/70 :D

While there is logic (with some exceptions) to the naming scheme - 1100 just sounds too much like a refresh and for a proper new line up I'd be unsurprised if they switched up the naming.

People still got too upset over a bunch of numbers.. it doesn't have to make sense what they call them based on previous cards, as long as it sounds good yeah.
