NVIDIA Volta with GDDR6 in early 2018?

I don't think Volta will be anything special.

I'd buy a Vega56 or if NVIDIA price cut the 1070 significantly in response, then one of those.
I was all set to buy a 1070 & then about a week before my planned purchase the prices shot through the roof (thanks heaps miners)

Navi out late 2018 you think?

Depends on when GF (really IBM) 7nm is ready. It looks likely that NAVI will use faster HBM2, rather than "Next Gen" memory, what ever that was.

IBM seem to be indicating that some of their 7nm products will see availability in H2 '18, and AMD seem confident they can get Zen2 out in either Q3 or Q4 '18. So if they can meet that, then no reason NAVI can't make it too. If production capacity is limited initially, they'll obviously prioritise Zen2 though.

I do hope so, we need AMD back in the game, back to when they were leap frogging each other on new generations. I also hope they haven't ham-stung themselves with HBM, considering the production issues.

Pretty sure they'll be sticking with HBM (or something similar) for the forseeable future. Can't imagine them going back to off-package memory when NAVI will be 'chiplets' connected by IF. You'd hope that very soon production capacity won't be an issue with HBM.

I'm too gutless to buy a 2nd hand GPU. Just in case I end up with a miners card. I like a nice secure warranty
I hear you on that one, its the unknown quantity. You might just be waiting a while get one. Or you could get from the Members Market from a trusted source - you just need 936 more posts to get in there...

By the time I'm eligible for the members market I'll also be eligible for a free bus pass:D

They will be in a rush to get it out, because they will want as much of a lead on NAVI as possible. Pretty sure the so-called '12nm' will be ready whenever, but they can't push GDDR6 forward.

Only the Titan and To will need GDDR6, the 2080 and 2070 will use 14Gbps GDDR5X for around 500GB/s.

February to April for the 2080, May to june for the TitanV

GDDR6 should also be already available in Q4, just 16Gbps will come later as hynix has shown. http://hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/105718-sk-hynix-q2-products-list-includes-gddr6-hbm2/
No idea how some people here get to the conclusion, that they can't launch in Q1 because there is no GDDR6. Seems like the same as with GTX1080, where people also said it has to be late Q3 or Q4 because there is no GDDR5X. 26th March 2018 will be Titan V release if everything works out as planned for them.

Same people in early 2016 were saying Q4'16 at the very earliest, Q1'17 more likely for the 1080 cards and then less than a month later the 1080 dropped heh - they also said the 1080ti wouldn't be out yet but here we are. Given some commonality in the info posted I think I know where they are getting their info from and its a heavily AMD bias source that has been time and time again proved over exaggerated with their dire predictions for nVidia stuff though usually fairly on the money for AMD stuff but some people still seem to believe them.

Its the same diehard AMD fans trying to make it seem that NVidia is doomed and AMD will be generations ahead etc.

As Roff said, With PAscal these same suspects were claiming that Nvidia couldn't release Pascal until at least 6-9 months after AMD releases Polaris, going on about rubbish like the CES mock-up or memory not available even although micron publicly stated it would.

It was semi-accurate who were pushing the story that nV were months behind, iirc.

One must also consider the flip side to that which is at some point there will be a ton of cheap used 1070s dumped on the 2nd hand market. What you'll see imho is a greater separation in the PC games hardware between the costs of high end vs mid range or legacy high end.

The way things are looking though that appears to be some way off & I'm in limbo until the prices drop a bit. I'll never buy a secondhand GPU either so It is retail prices I'm waiting on.

Whats wrong with second hand, you can pick up some good kit and save a fair bit of money.
