Yea it looks like they want to push it to everyone so they can make money on apps. Sound bit of thinking if it works. Less money short term but more in the long term.

Well that has shocked me!
The nag icon is basically asking you to activate a new type of Windows Update, i.e. the OS upgrade, so that you can upgrade straight to Windows 10 using Windows Update (in the same way that you could upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1).
If you want to install or upgrade Windows 10 in the usual way, you can just grab the ISO as always.
The nag icon is really annoying though because it remains even after you reserve Windows 10. Ridiculous intrusion from Microsoft.

If they are allowing pirated copies to upgrade, then that does make me agree. Seems a little strange.

Inplace upgrade each time! I have stuff in my profile folder going back to 2008!
