NXE Official thread

Ok then. On further investigation it would seem that when using an HDMI cable and selecting 1920x1080, the console outputs 1080i.

Hence the apparent framerate drop.

The G2400W can display an interlaced resolution over HDMI however it converts the signal to progressive resulting in it displaying half the frames per second.

NXE is a joke...

Anyone else noticed this?

I think you want to change your 'NXE is a joke, to your G2400W is a joke'..

The 360 can output 1080i or 1080p, the only thing that determines which it uses is your display/TV!

My 360 outputs 1080p to my Monitor and TV perfectly, with a full 60fps.. as it should..

I suspect that your display isn't giving the correct EDID or whatever HDMI uses, to tell the 360 what resolutions it supports properly, so 1080 is defaulting to interlaced..

I guess in your defence, MS could allow you to force 1080p, but that's not a general public friendly feature! (The PS3 can do that though)

How can you be sure you are getting 1080p? My monitor reports it is receiving 1920x1080 60Hz.

Gone are the options for 720p, 1080i, 1080p etc. over HDMI. Instead we have resolutions 1280x720, 1920x1080 (i or p???).

They allowed me to 'force' 1080p prior to NXE, by choosing 1080p!

It has dawned on me that the guys using TVs are probably still getting the 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p options and my console has detected I'm using a monitor, hence monitor resolutions...

Oh dear...

Can someone confirm this?

Yep, I took my 360 over to my VX2835 Monitor (Viewsonic 28"), and I suddenly get all the normal monitor resolutions!

And, like yours, The monitors info just says 1080, so no mention of i/p!!

Update: OK, I can set 1080i and 1080p via my PC's graphic card options, and the tell-tale sign is the Monitors Pixel Clock value when I bring up the Monitor Information on the Monitors menu,

For 1080i it gives 74Mhz, and 1080p 149Mhz..
And,
Since 1920 * 1080 * 30 (effectively 1080i) = 62Mhz
and 1920 * 1080 * 60 (1080p) = 124Mhz

I'd say that's a good way of checking, my 360 gives 139Mhz, so it must be 1080p (and it does look smooth to me)

Bought a 2nd 120gb last night for my other xbox and got confirmaton of my suspicions that they were marked incorrectly at £70 - the manager of the store was not very happy :)

I did the same last night at my local rental store, priced wrong = bargain.

Thanks for investigating this for me Demon.

Looks like I'll have to make do with 1280x720 on this monitor :)

EDIT : Come to think of it, why has Microsoft configured an interlaced signal for monitors??? Ridiculous...

It's the 'standard' thats the problem, it allows you get a full 1920*1080 image, but with an effective 30hz refresh..
Many Plasma/LCD's for the last 6 years would support 720p/1080i, and the first HDMI models only went to 1080i as well, so MS have to support that!

I suspect that it is your monitors EDID information telling the 360 it only supports 1080i..

They could/should perhaps offer a way of overriding your monitors EDID information, so that you can 'force' certain resolutions so that it doesn't matter how good/bad your monitor.

I was able to actually write new EDID info into a 27" LCD I have, as that had the wrong information in the EDID. I used powerstrip to do that, and some freeware EDID editing tools, but it depends on your monitor if it will allow the EDID to be overwritten.

Yep it’s rather strange, I have two Xbox’s one is connected to my 50' Samsung plasma using HDMI at 720p selected in the Xbox display page, this works perfect and is just the same as before the update.

My second Xbox is connected to a ViewSonic VX2835WM 28 LCD" through HDMI before the update I had 1080p selected as my monitor has 1:1 mapping and this was perfect, now after the update I can only select monitor resolutions such as 1920X1080 is there a difference at all? And the strange thing is my monitor seems to think it’s a DVI signal as this pops up when I turn the Xbox on? Probably nothing :D

That is bizarre!
My 2835 shows HDMI, and 139Mhz Pixel Clock! on a new Xbox Elite!

Before the update, when using HDMI, I couldn't actually get any HD resolution via HDMI! A problem with the VX2835 apparantly.

I did find reference to a firmware update, perhaps we have different firmware? My serial is much older then yours!

I know :p Mine is a new Elite also well the newer Falcon but had it a while now and this was fine before I could select all the HD settings such as 720P 1080i 1080p etc, just now after the update these have now gone and have being replaced by monitor resolutions. The thing that is strange is DVI pops up on the HDMI screen  I don’t understand that one, as its connected via HDMI. Is there a way to update the firmware this may fix the issues we are having?

Cracking monitor though isn’t it? :D

Apart from the DVI message, I don't think there is anything to fix?
The 360 is just picking up the fact that it is a monitor and giving you the choice of all the resolutions it supports (Well no more then 1920*1080, it would be nice if it gave us 1920*1200!)

720p = 1280 * 720
1080p = 1920 * 1080

so all the correct HDTV resolutions are covered! we just get more choice!

And, yep, the monitor is great!!

Over HDMI I get the options of:

Optimal
480p
720p
1080i
1080p

on my TV and a huge range of 16:9, 4:3, 5:4 and 16:10 options with VGA/HDMI->DVI on my monitor.

Yeah I suppose it’s not a problem, just strange seeing the resolutions settings rather than 1080p etc :p

Yeah it’s like that on my Plasma as well, it was the same for my LCD but since the update this has changed on the LCD I only get to choose monitor resolutions.

I was looking froward to 1650x1050 res but it looks crap though the 360. It seems anything beyond 720p and the picture gets worse even though my monitor is 16:10 the shapest picture from the 360 is 720p. I'm guessing this is because all the 360 games are written to support up to a max of 720p

Just finished updating my bros 360 with the nxe and now cant find his themes, its not showing up in the console section anyone have any ideas what going on, ive checked his Hd and he has 60mb of themes.
