O2 - anyone else just had notice of a 17.8% increase

I think your missing my point .

Contract or not given how high inflation is and RPI at 13.4% they could have as a good will just waived the +3.9 % . Would probably have kept a lot more customers, like I said it’s just greedy .

Given inflation will drop it makes it even worse.
Like I said it's crap but it should be no surprise when a big corporation uses a contracts wording to it's advantage.

Just renewed my O2 through ukhotdeals onto a £8 for 12 month sim only deal. Even if it goes up by the 18% it is still only an extra quid fifty a month. 30GB which is more than enough for me.

My EE mobile is increasing by £2.21.

I'd move but it dont think I'd get a better deal as I have the 30% Friends and Family discount plus I renewed prior to the roaming changes so I still get Roaming included within my free minutes and data.

That works both ways though, said corporation shouldn't be surprised if that results in them losing customers in droves and the industry watchdog reviewing the legislation which controls & limits those contracts.

The only reason I'm still with VM is that its my only option for getting anything approaching modern speeds. As soon as FTTP is available, I'm gone.

Absolutely, although the ability to increase by this amount within the contract is a relatively recent change to the regulations so it's probably a dead end expecting it to change any time soon. The issue comes when there's no where to escape to that doesn't have it written into the contract.

It wouldn't surprise me if the massive rises this year either cause people to consider it more when signing up to new contracts, or more providers having no mid-contract rises as a USP

People will defo consider price rises when taking out new contracts in the future once they make it mainstream.

It has happened for the last couple of years, but it's always been a couple £ here and there - easy to ignore or just accept. This year because of inflation, it's close to 20%, so some people on more expensive packages/phone contracts will be seeing £10+ increases, that makes it a lot more visible, especially when combined with the fact everyone is trying to cut costs in general. Hopefully a watershed moment! It's certainly made me more wary and will be looking at what I can do to reduce any long term commitments, e.g. moving to monthly rolling contract/pay as you go

I'm currently on an £8 per month O2 deal and only 9 months in to a 12 month deal, yet I have an email stating that from April it will go up to over £14 per month. Wtf?

I'm in exactly the same situation, unlimited data and a smart perk for £28, it's going up by £4.59. It doesn't look like any of their 'deals' are any better factoring my roaming - even including 20% discount I can get.

Why the need for unlimited data? I barely get through 30GB a month and as a lorry driver my phone is being used with data 50 hours a week.

Got my text of price rise other day but I was looking at moving away from o2 anyway mid 24 months SIMO plan as my average download speeds are 2Mbps which is woeful.

Phoned them up today to get the PAC and saw a £267 early termination fee was due if the PAC gets used. Phoned through to CS who agreed that I was not getting the service I signed up for and applied a credit to remove the fee and I am now free to use the PAC and not pay the fee.

Going back to EE. I tried Three many times over the years and tried Vodafone's network too and none of them are any good for fast 4G except for EE. It is more expensive, but it is the most reliable and the latency advantage is noticeable in just normal web browsing too in how quick HTTP loads.

So yeah, back on EE now forever I guess. 125GB, 12 months SIMO @ £20 a month after EE Perk discount applied. It's capped at 100Mbps but that's fine as I know I can get that at all times, my normal EE speed last year was 300Mbps+ on 4G+

Shame they still don't have the 60GB data plan, 125 is overkill for me, but oh well. This works out cheaper than last year when I was paying £22 month on EE for 100GB data lol.

On o2 my Spotify keeps skipping when driving so that was the main driving force behind moving back to EE.

For you guys who want to change I'm with Smarty (Three network) and usually pay £20 per month but I got a promotion down to £16 a month now. Unlimited 5g calls and texts. 1200Mbps download speeds. Yes 1.2Gbit :) also it's a monthly rolling SIM, no contract.

Smarty does look like a great deal but as above, Three's coverage around my home area is nearly non existent. Work area is better but there's still the odd part with no signal. I'm tempted to try giffgaff again as coverage wise I found them fine, but around busy parts of London I kept having congestion issues.

I've always found Three terrible, especially inside, my mrs is always having issues with her reception.

A lot of people say that. This is the speed I get indoors. Upload aint great but who cares about that? :D for £16 it's a no brainer, unlimited everything, no throttling either.
