O2 - anyone else just had notice of a 17.8% increase

my missus just got s23 ordered on 10th...so 18 days ago...but due to how long application for contract took, she got her mobile on 15th - 13days ago...will see if we can get out of it...from £36 a month to £43 ans she only has put sim card in it 2 days ago...JOKE

I signed a new contract last week. So glad for Refresh. My deal has the first six months free. As soon as the free period is up, I'm off.

additionally....why should devices price go up...price plan maybe...but device is at certain cost...

I didn't think it affected device agreements?

It applies to the whole monthly payment. Even though it shouldn't be on the device portion, it is.

And there was me under the impression that Refresh paired an interest free device loan with an airtime plan...

But I get it. Costs are going up. And the costs which they incur on the device which they already supplied have increased by 17.3% in the 13 days since delivery. It's totally reasonable to put the price up

Bunch of jokers.

had a look on other possible contracts - s23 256gb - and all of them are much higher cost than what we got one for other half...even with increase it will be same as cheapest deal or just cheaper... and she likes lavender colour...i think she will keep hers...

people taking contracts now that are not aware, will be seriously ripped off...

If you can get away with not upgrading don’t do it. Keep the devices you have until they no longer work and don’t keep changing for the sake of it otherwise you going to get your eyes ripped out.

If you have a suitable device that takes sim monthly plans then do it. You will save a fortune!

Gary talks a lot of sense, if there's continual demand for new devices, paid for by spreading the cost of the handset and network over a x month contract then they'll just keep whacking the price up. Mobile and broadband providers pretty much have the same CPI +x% clause in their contacts so not one of them has to worry about being competitive by increasing price.

It's simple math, but increasing price has the biggest return for improved profitability.

Yep my whole point .

Its a retrospective incresss for a handset that had a fixed cost when the contract was taken out -, it’s doesn’t rise by 17.8% 22 months into the contract.

My letter showed it was only the airtime increasing, not the device payment.

Also, from Money Saving Expert: “If you're on an O2 Refresh plan, the device part of your contract WON'T rise – so your overall increase will be less than 17.3%”

If I’m out of a 12 month SIMO contract is it worth me shopping around now? I had a quick look and most of them say “this price will be rising in April”?

I need the cheapest eSim possible, which is harder than it sounds because only the big four/five do eSims, not any resellers like Giff Gaff etc.

My £5 SKY sim goes from £5 this month to £5.40 next month to £7 in April. Seems peanuts but I genuinely barely use it as it's just a SIM to keep my personal number as I use all my data through work SIM. So I moved to Lebara this week which is back to £5 a month (for the time being)

I was about to come and correct everyone on this too! I don't think O2 have done a great job in marketing this, but the rise only affects the airtime, not the device.

Had a moan at O2 last week about the poor data speeds in a particular area that I frequently visit. They credited enough money on my account to cover the increase in cost from April :p

I actually get Sky staff rates (I don’t work for Sky) but unfortunately my work phone has to be physical SIM, therefore my personal number has to be an eSim if I want both lines on the same device. And that means it has to be a SIMO contract from one of the big guys :(
Otherwise I’m in the same position- I get unlimited data worldwide from work so absolutely no need for much at all.
