Obsession

I watched the film this evening at the cinema. Most of my thoughts are in the main film thread (below), but here's some more deeper and spoilery thoughts.

Obsession (2026)

Finally went to see this at the cinema this evening. A horror film about a young man, who has a crush on his friend. Things take a turn after he gets what he wished for.

It was a common and relatable story. You wish for something. You be careful what you wish for. However, this film's take on it was superb. Especially with the budget that they had, they did an incredible job.

It was freakishly funny in various parts too. Acting was great. Cinematography was excellent. The use of shadows and dark scenes were brilliant.

Disturbing film, but in a good way. Highly recommended.

I've put some more spoiler-y thoughts in the dedicated thread for the film.

9/10

Cinematography was excellent.

She was constantly in shadows and there were plenty of moments where I was thinking - "do I want to be able to see her or not...?"

Jump scares - not overly filled with them, but the ones in the film weren't cheap.

Mrs got jump scared at that scene in the car where his girlfriend suddenly appeared and killed Sarah. There was a moment where the hairs on my skin stood up when she was saying "I love you" and then all of a sudden she started walking backwards. It was just freaky overall.

Thought this was brilliant, 9/10 from me

I didn't realise until towards the very end that Ian and Sarah weren't a couple. That's the only thing they could have made clearer.

Best film of the year for me so far. Extremely well done and some excellent and unique performances (esp Inde Navarrette I thought). Wasn't bored for a moment and found the whole thing brilliantly done. 9/10.

Loved it.

First time I've had to tell some woman to shut up though, repeatedly. Unsure why you'd go to the cinema to talk the whole way through.

Great movie

I think there is real potentially to make sequels with other characters who also find the willow branches or even a TV show

I'd imagine Curry has endless possibilities for what's next; turning it into a franchise or just something new, he won't have any issues with funding due to the massive financial success.

Supposedly obsession was made with a budget of $750k, which seems low given the production values so I'm unsure how accurate it is but if so then they did wonders with the small budget, and astonishingly the movie is about to hit $400 million in revenue, probably making it the most or one of the most financially successful movies ever - I hope the actors had profit sharing in their contracts as with the small budget of the movie they likely got paid peanuts for the roles but they deserve some of that profit

I'd give it a 'good' 7/10, probably because I have watched so many Twilight Zone/Outer Limits type stuff that a monkey's paw concept isn't anything new to me. Nikki was wonderfully unsettling though.

I follow Curry on his Shorts so nice to see he's managed to become a director. However whilst I enjoyed the film and it should be applauded for being decent on such a small budget, I'm not sure I think it's worthy of such praise, like it's the second coming though.

I was suprised to see Inde Navarette saying it's propelled her into fame. I saw her in Superman and Lois and thought she was a fine actress that would not be short of offers. Unless this was filmed before S&L.
