Why would anyone have one of these over a 480 or a 570?
Cooler, less noise are the main things.
You pays a premium for fastest and best. The GTX 580 is cool, quiet and clearly the fastest gaming card money can buy. It is not meant to be a bargain card. The 6950/6970/570's offer better value, but value is not top of the list for 580 owners, performance is.Maintaining very similar performance. They are however more expensive and not really worth the money IMO.
HD6950 are very decent cards on the other hand.

^^Tried lowering your idle clocks? Or does it bother you in game as well?
It's just games it bothers me in. I manually control fan speed when in 2D and 3D. But in the summer months it can be torture!
I'm just wondering if 6950 CF would be overkill for my current setup? I can't sacrifice performance due to the want to play at such a high res. Stuck with current CPU as I'm waiting for Sandy Bridge, like everybody else
6950_C.F = Beast in terms of Money vs power ratio
With a O/C'ed Q6600 powering it, though?
I love how all these ATI fan boys are defending this card with all their mite.
If this was an Nvidia card you would be ripping it to bits.
