*****OcUK Benchmark Results from ATI HD 69xx Series*****

At least you will be able buy a 6970/50 over the coming months at a decent price, the 580 shortage is shocking and pushing Nvidia prices higher. Come the reviews I believe we will see very close performance between the top four GPU's, but AMD will win hands down on pricing, power draw and temps.

Well, this is what Gibbo said about the new drivers:

The new drivers are much faster, but I did not get them in time. The new drivers basically mean a 6970 beats a GTX 580 in tessellation or at least is no longer chasing it.

Wait for reviews tomorrow guys, its a fantastic card for the money, but the GTX 580 does still have outright power, but it cost more.

For the same money I'd be bagging myself a pair of 6950's. :D

I wouldn't say suck, they are the only thing that makes Black Ops playable for me, they also seem to bias on quality over performance in quite a few things - probably due to being Quadro drivers I do see an increase in IQ in some stuff.

My Heaven 2.1 scores are a bit mixed tho, they give better min fps on the first run and good extreme tessellation performance compared to other drivers I've tried but don't seem so hot at normal tessellation.

Ive just looked at my old results and yes I'm getting better min fps and extreme tessellation performance, but the scores and high fps are lower.

Hmm. AMD were never going to match the nvidia top cards overall, we all know that.

Nvidia's architecture means although they squeeze maybe 5% extra out in their relative class of card, they are never going to be able to supply in similiar quantities at similiar prices with their huge die size and low yield rates, and that will never change until they change their fundamental GPU design or some chip manufacturing miracle happens.

AMDs GPU business has less of a hill to climb, its improved on its efficient architecture, it can supply massive amounts of cards that are competitively priced with plenty of stock, offering great performance/price ratio, sell in huge quantities, make lots of profit, subsequently pouring a load more cash into R&D for next generation of cards.

I know which side im betting on right now, and judging by this launch, things can only get better.

As I have said before 6970 is a bit fail at £279 quid.
Doesnt quite beat 570gtx which is £250 and it doesnt come close to 580.
Huh, have you been looking at the benchmarks? I haven't seen any leaked benchmarks show that the 6970 is slower than GTX 480 which is equal to GTX 570 in performance. Why do people keep thinking GTX 570 is way faster than 480, it isn't. About 80% benchmarks seem to suggest that it performs a little slower the GTX 580. The other 20% seem to suggest that it might outperform GTX 580 with new drivers. And this is just for tessellation since we've been only seeing a bunch of Unigine benchmarks.

If you're getting near GTX 580 or more performance for GTX 570 price, how is that fail?

Wait for the reviews, as I did not test a 570. From what I've seen they will be close, though 6970 does seem to have better clocking potential.

this is what i suspected. 570 comes in already slighltly overclocked out of the packet doesn't it? so this would suggest slightly less overclocking potential but the impression is that at stock it might be just behind the 570. overall doesn't look like there will be much between the two tbh but obviously this is all still all circumspect.

Fact is the single GPU crown which ATI held from the launch of 5870 to the arrival of 480 is lost.
They have to compete with NVidia on price until the 6990 lands.
And great price it is for a 6950!
