OcUK Build Logs

hi there - Welcome to the Forums!

good to see you on here!

i would suggsest putting your system specs in a signature - but forum rules only allow for four lines of text!!!! :p

Thanks so much Rich. Can't wait to meet you guys again and see your magic taking the system to the next level... I'm eyeing that 4.7Ghz and a record Fritz benchmark - I know you can make that happen ;)

We built a custom computer yesterday with I7 and 2x 295 GTX and almost smashed the highest score on the orb at 36106 marks.

I will upload pics of the rig soon.

wow, that is seriously powerful, although what could you possible need 2x295s for? i mean, i recently got the 280 and it doesnt even break a sweat when running games like Crysis with all gfx settings on ultra, AA=16Q, 1920x1200... i mean, it will be like the year 2020 before a game comes out that will push the limits of 295s in sli!

i suppose the frame rate boost would be welcome, as with those settings crysis runs an average of 40fps.

my new build form OCuk is amazing aside from a few minor niggles.... first time it was delivered it didnt work, im told it was a GFX & PSU failure, shipped it back for RMA was a bit dissapointed when they replaced my GTX 280 they downgraded it from a Gainward to POV but c'est la vi.

the tech at OCuk who applied the Silver Thermal Paste got some on the Antec 1200 clear side panel, and its impossible to remove.... told OCuk about this when i returned it for RMA (PSU & GFX were defunkt the first delivery) but it was ignored... i suppose i can live with it... not really visible unless you shine a torch on it, may become more visible and annoying if i add any more lighting to the case.

Also some stray screw was left over in my case, i didnt know until i noticed that the bottom front fan on the Antec 1200 wasnt spinning, i touched it with a pen and it began spinning, but then, the screw, that i didnt know was there (it was obviously the culprit that blocked the fan), was hit by the spinning fan blades like a golf club hits a ball and the screw flew off and broke 2 little black bits of plastic off something inside my rig! eek! doesnt look like its anything too important though, looks like its a connector off the PSU or something.

aside from that everythings great, i7 hasnt even broken a sweat... 280 is nice and powerful no complaints, as i said before i would like a bit higher frame rate but i guess i can just buy another 280 when it becomes unbearable or when i become bored.

no offense, but if i'd been in your shoes it would have gone straight back for a FULL refund and i'd be shopping elsewhere.

i've always bought the vast majority of my PC bitz from overclockers, but if i thought anything was substandard i'd change ships faster than a rat!

1 screw inside my case isnt life or death, i have a feeling its when they swapped out some of my defunkt kit, it was left over... im more annoyed at getting downgraded from Grainward to POV even though theirs hardly a difference, the blemish on the case isnt noticable as i say unless you shine a torch on it...

i could return it under the distance selling act, about 10% of me feels i should... but im super lazy, and she runs like a dream, so i dont really see the point of returning it because of a stray screw and a tiny mark you cant see unless you look at it in detail.... but i get your point, paying £2k for a rig you would expect it to be in pristine condition.

but ive learnt my lesson, i thought getting OCuk to build me a machine would have been less hassle than ordering the parts and building myself but i guess if you want something done perfectly you have to do it yourself.

@smogsy nice spec, almost the same as mine... im going to go for SLi config aswell at some point, but no need at the moment... GTX 280 has handled everything on its own.

My next mission is to build a server to link all my PCs/Laptops together,i will buy most equipment from OCuk but i will def be building it myself this time!

You pay a premium for a premium product, you could have done the **** ups yourself, free of charge. I'd be fuming (especially if they haven't gotten back to me regarding the TiM on the side panel!).

Just wipe the smudge off with a bit of glass-cleaner. The screw is more of a worry and shouldn't be there - check all the remaining screws in case there's any missing or loose.

It's bit like buying a new car, there are always going to be niggles to sort out.

:D That would be quite funny actually.

Nice rig BTW - the problem with buying systems like this is most components fall off the "best" perch every 2 months. Can get every expensive.

yup, i could have waited for the next round of improvements to be realesed, and then i could wait a couple more months for the next round and so on and on, you have to take the plunge at somepoint because you can end up just never buying anything because your always waiting for the newest, fastest, bestest thing thats round the corner.

my logic was that i will not need to upgrade my CPU for quite a while as the i7 940 can handle anything, so why wait for any future releases? (apart from a price drop), the GTX 280 handles everything fine aswell, when it starts to struggle i can either upgrade to a newer GPU when needed or just slap in another GTX 280 and run them together, basically i thought this was a great rig that should have enough longjevity to support games for a number of years, not only to mention before crimbo OCuk knocked £500 off it.

i didnt realise my sig should be no larger than 4 lines... guess ill go and change it :(

It seems the thread got a bit off-topic. It would be more interesting and fun if it remains a thread about quality builds in terms of spec and visuals of the build, and a complaints thread is used for other stuff. Just my humble opinion.

I'd agree, any chance of a mod splitting it into two threads?

Got my rig delivered today, so I'm waiting for the end of work to come so I can finally enjoy it. :D

Not sure a build log thread was ever supposed to be fun lol.

Anyway, IMO listing the good and bad is very much a part of what this thread is about. I'm sure many people who want a new PC would have had their minds made up by this thread, both for and against.
