I'll have my phone app and cable with me yes but not the laptop. So most coding can be done, just not some specific stuff that requires the full software.

To be honest the amount of software available for the E46 M3 amazes me, I've literally got software which will let me code/change anything on it, I can even write my own maps if I was brave enough. Support is immense on the E46 and how much you can actually do.

OBD2 came in around 1996 so its simply additional ways of interfacing with the OBD standard.

I use BMWhat, the stuff it lets you do can be found on this link

http://www.ivini-apps.com/coding.html (select E46). The cable I have is E46 specific though, as I now realise hence why it wouldn't work on Vox's E92!
