OcUK Dadsnet thread

Slight necro here but, how long did your labours take?
Waters broke last night at around 6pm, got sent home told to wait for contractions. Called them again after seeing some green and heavy contractions and told to come back in... Everything seems fine now, Just waiting around! Been here since 12.30
So how long did yours take from waters to baby?

About 36 hours, ended had a C-section in the end.

my GF had our baby roughly 7 weeks ago.

She was booked in for a C section 2 weeks before her due date because the baby hadn't turned and it didn't have enough space to.

I think she had around 5 scans or more :O in total during her pregnancy. swiss healthcare is crazy but I guess they pay for it with their medical insurance so it should be better than the NHS.

early in the morning we went down for the operation and the epidural failed to work so we had to sit in the hospital for about 6 hours before they tried again.

the second time the epidural worked and she couldn't feel the heat/cold when they tested her only the pressure being applied as expected.

she was terrified and started to cry because she was afraid she would feel everything since the first time failed but I managed to calm her down :)

She had to stay in the hospital for a full week and I visited her everyday staying from early in the morning until around 9pm at night :D

it was nice to be there for her as much as possible since we live in different countries still.

I don't get to see my baby again until the middle of december apart from on skype :( I miss him greatly even though I get to see him on skype for a few hours each day.

My girlfriend went into labour on the Monday, waters broke on the Wedneday but they did it themselves as they didn't want to wait any longer, gave birth on the Thursday after being taken to theatre and using the tools of doom to grab him out. Her labour was brutal :(

She then had to stay in hospital with my son for a week due to infection worries which was luckily a false alarm but glad they took the precaution just incase

About 6 days. We were sent for induction, and after three rounds of induction she was only just 2cm dilated, so they broke her waters in the hope that would allow her head to force the cervix open. No such luck and after a couple of worrying moments where our baby's heart rate would plummet (sat on cord or something) we eventually had a c section

Just about to go for second examination. First one was painful, hoping this one is a bit better.... Man I'm glad I have a penis

My missus had loads of those, as well as the stretch and sweep which sounds bloody painful. We did have a really helpful dude doing it who explained how if she relaxed it wouldn't hurt as much (sounds obvious but he pointed out that the fact he could feel a particular muscle on her pelvis meant that no, she was not actually relaxed). Obviously easier said than done when you're being fisted by a stranger, but it helped her a bit.

Yeah we got the same advice, the midwives here are awesome tho and this one was fine as they just poked around. Sounds like they still need to do some movements in order for us to be clear.
I think we are waiting to be induced now!

Congrats all

Shout out to my dad crew

I'm a part time single dad to a mega well behaved, polite and intelligent 4 year old.
I have her all of one weekend, then half of the next.

Mother did try the 'every other weekend' thing with me but i said i'd sell my flat and deplete all my savings before she stops me seeing her every weekend ;)

Congrats to all the new and veteran dads in this thread. :)

Got number 2 due on the 17th December to go along with a (95% of the time) amazing nearly 3 year old. Find out the cesarean date today; we had an emergency section with our first, my wife doesn't want to go through another 36 hour labour and I'm totally fine with that :D

I'm have no idea what it's like going to have 2 children, has anybody got any survival tips so I might actually get past Christmas? :o

All I can say is spend AS MUCH time as possible with your 3-year old whilst you can. Once baby # 2 arrives (especially after a c-section) your 3-year old will spend more time with Cbeebies than they will with you.

It will get better as the baby grows older, but it's never the same experience as the one on one time you have with your eldest at the moment.

I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old, so I speak from experience :D

Also, buy lots and lots of coffee. Life with two kids is an entire magnitude harder than it is with one.

Thanks all, baby is doing well and mum is recovering also. Over the moon and I've proper turned into a mushy git, what the hell happened?! Whenever I see her I just think she is the most beautiful thing in the world!

Need to get my game face back on for when I get back into work!

Just taking it easy for now and enjoying every second. Thanks again :D
