Sure, I might take a punt anyway, I quite like the idea of something covering the back of the passenger seat too as she keeps getting dirty footprints on the back of the seat. But I don't want something strapped to the seat making it look all untidy like.:mad::o

I was thinking about towels for this the other day - Dunelm have pretty cheap but reasonable towels in just about any colour you could think of, including black which I thought might be best for the car

I'll ping you a name. Was an absolute god send to us. Google my mention of it in this thread and you'll see the feedback from the yokels

Was an initial consultation, then given advice/a program, support throughout, worth every penny.

Well we had our first full session with our sleep consultant last night (https://littlesleepstars.com/), it was extremely interesting and a lot more 'sciencey' than I was expecting with lots of talk about circadian rhythms, sleep pressure and basic child psychology. We knew what the problem was that his naps were 'off' during the day which meant he was waking up too early in the night but we just needed someone to step in and actually explain how he's got himself into this state and how we can start rolling back his naps to help with nighttime sleep.

Effectively he's been sleeping far too much in the day and when waking up at 5am would then go for a huge 2 hour nap around 7/7.30 which just continues the cycle of the early wakeup/split night. We've now got a plan that if he does wake up at 5am to only let him have a short nap around 7ish (like 20 minutes or so) and then have more structured naps during the rest of the day. We're only on day one so obviously haven't seen any difference :p but both me and my wife are feeling positive that we now at least have plan rather than just muddling through everything. Sleep consultant did set the expectation that with the changes to his naps we may find some degradation in regards to his ability to self-settle (he's always been fairly good at this) so again has provided some guidance on things we can try. I think most importantly for my wife though there was no mention of just leaving him to 'cry it out'... so roll on the next few days and hopefully we start seeing some small improvements.

This was the game changer for us too. I mean I can sleep standing up frankly so was quite happy muddling through - the early mornings were killing me though. I remember the whole nap cycle plan fondly and thinking it was nonsense - but we followed it religiously and still (touch wood) we are still doing 7pm bedtime, between 7:00-8:00 wake up. She has a solid 2 hr nap till midday which is a life saver for life admin/when the child minder closes (which she has done for today and tomorrow annoyingly!) - dreading dropping that one!

Had a bit of a mild panic about a week ago. I have some sweet bars my wifes mother sends me over from Poland, Wedel Chałwa Królewska. It's a crumbly nougatty type bar which I know know is made mostly from ground sesame seeds.

I was upstairs fixing somethin on my PC and my 4 year old son came up with one of the bars and asked me if he could try it, I did my usual 'have you asked mummy' and sent him back to check with her. Cue 20 minutes later she comes running upstairs, gets something out of a drawer and goes back downstairs, he's crying, rubbing his eyes, his face has swollen a little, he's red all down his neck and chest and has some spots appearing.

About 5 minutes before she gave him a little taste of the bar and he spat it out, not liking the taste, then he had a quick allergic reaction, she had a bottle of strong anti-histamine drops he'd been prescribed last time in Poland (dairy intolerance) and after about 10 minutes it all calmed down. He then fell asleep and didn't really wake until about 11/12 hours later.

My wife cool as a cucumber through all this, me freaking out, thinking we might have to go to hospital, worrying, feeling sick, anxious, freaking out completely.

Phoned doctors next day, had a blood test and we got the results yesterday, basically has a strongish Sesame and Almond allergy and we've been advised to keep him away from any tree nuts.

My disaster scenario mind of course is wondering how it would have been if he'd just opened the bar and had actually ingested it rather than spitting it out. Luckily he's fairly well behaved and knows not just to help himself to sweets and snacks in the cupboards.
Just to quote my own post from July last year, we finally have an appointment with an allergy specialist tomorrow after being delayed 3 times. We had considered finding somewhere private a number of times but we've been quite militant around the foods he eats and thus far, have made sure he hasn't had a recurrent issue with anything that causes him a problem.

Also it's a bit of a rabbithole looking into allergy testing to find the places that do it properly and aren't just looking at intolerances or using methods with flimsy science around them.

Been told they'll be taking blood and a skin sample tomorrow so hopefully get some solid answers soon of what he can/can't have. The school is also eager as once we've been through the specialist and had results, if needed they can give us an epi-pen to leave with the school, should it be required if he has a bad reaction to anything.

Son had his allergy tests yesterday, confirmed definite sesame allergy, mild almond which shouldn't cause issues, no other nut allergies. Sesame one will be with him for life and we've been given 4 epi-pens, 2 for school, 2 for us. Have an exemption certificate too so we can take them on flights. Also confirmed the dairy intolerance, he's ok with cooked dairy, just nothing raw like milk/yoghurt/etc.

World apart from the test I saw Holland & Barret administer via glass vials and bio-impedence in the back of a shop 10+ years ago for my wife around her dietary concerns. Could actually see the reactions on his skin with this one for each of the samples they tested.

In the market for a baby monitor. There never seems to be a shortage of knowledge on these forums so wondering what a decent go-to baby monitor was? Ideally one that can go through to our mobile phones.

Was looking at the BT Smart video one but open to other suggestions

We didn't bother with a specific one. We ended up with a bunch of Tapo PTZ cameras. We got C200/C210's but I think the latest model is TC70. They are about 25 quid.

I actually did think of going a security camera route so that's not a bad shout.

We've started putting her up for bed at night but the cat enjoys going in the room and messing about so we want to shut the door but not without being able to see/hear her. Probably should just exile the cat

Haha, well certainly I'd argue my corner then. The reason I don't push it hard is some folk want all of the additional baby cam functions like noise/breathing etc... If it is literally just high quality video, on your phone - Tapo is great.

Works well if you ever have baby sitters etc too as it works remotely.

Yeah I think we just want to see her. Something that could generate white noise would also be nice but really we could buy a wireless smart speaker and that camera for the same price as a baby camera

"Alexa play brown noise"

Note, this kit all works exceptionally well till the WiFi dies :D. We've begun using an old iPhone + mini speaker for white noise now.

BT 6000.

VERY GOOD!
Motion, Noise works great.
Independent from WiFi. No Internet access so no snooping from outsiders.

There is a reason why its been out donkeys and is still one of the best.

Can also, add more cameras to each base unit too.

We never bothered with white noise for either of our 2. We also didn't make that much of an effort to tip toe and I think it's helped in the long run as they are reasonable with bedtime.
