OcUK Dadsnet thread

We have this: VTech 5764 Smart Video 5 Inch HD Baby Monitor

Find it brilliant.
Can be accessed via Internet.
Takes me back to the time where peoples kiddie cams were getting hacked.

Also must have a WiFi connection to work. Not really idea if you go away and want to use it.

Shame really. Looks to be a good unit. But those issues make it a massive no in my personal view.

Doesn’t need WiFi for just normal use with the monitor. It has great range without WiFi too, we’ve used it away at parents, hotel and holiday and it’s been great.

As for internet access, you don’t have to let it providing you know what you’re doing with a router.

But the listing and questions specifically say it needs WiFi to work at all.

So you're saying, it doesn't need to be connected to WiFi at all?
So it uses its own radio transmission between base and camera?

If so, then it's probably absolutely fine.

And yes, I agree with the router comment, but you'll have to realise 95% of people haven't a clue how the Internet works. Nevermind how to configure a router lol

Any Dads of twins in here? We're into our fourth week of having them home after 5 weeks in hospital and it's relentless haha. My life at the moment is wake up for work, come home, nappy changes, feeds, housework, cooking, rinse and repeat. The Mrs is exhausted with the constant breast feeding all hours and I'm starting to flag too.

Correct, it connects via it's own traditional radio connection by default. The WiFi requirement is only for mobile app use.

Having said that. If you're not looking to connect to WiFi then you'd be better off with the BT 6000, it's solid and cheaper.

Just bought a Axkiid minikid 2 car seat and what a difference on how sturdy it is compared to our isofix seat, granted not as quick and easy to install and remove but it's a small price to pay for extra safety for the little one.

Can't recommend this type of seat enough.

I'm a dad of twins, they are three now but the first year was very exhausting. We have three older children as well so you can imagine the first year was nuts.

My wife is a legend though, stay at home mum and gets on with it. Although I was the same, get in from work and full on for dinner and bed times, it's still the same now. My working day finishes at 5:30 but really it runs until about 9pm doing all five bedtimes.

I try to help after work as much as I can, the three older children are all at school now, they are 11, 7 and 5 and the twins are 3 and will be going to nursery in September for a couple of days a week, give the wife a bit of a break.

Chin up it could be worse, try five of them

How much do you earn? sorry very personal question, but I can't imagine how much 5 kids and a house big enough for them costs to run eeeek

We have the First v1 of that seat I think. Very good.

It's the fractured sleep that screws me over. Doing all the jobs is fine as I can kind of get into a routine, but as soon as I'm woken in the night my brain turns to mush :D.

Apologies if this has been covered recently. Junior Stocks & Shares ISA. Are all the companies that do them much of a muchness? I've been looking at Fidelity.

I'm in the higher earner tax bracket, put it that way. The kids eat me out of house and home. We only have a 3 bed house at the moment and with current country situation its not going to change for awhile! Oldest has the box room, two have the spare room in bunk beds, and the twins are in with the wife. I draw the short straw and get the sofa bed.

I know a lot of people will think this is crazy but as of now its all we can do.

It might depend on which funds you want to invest in, but Fidelity have zero fees on JISA and for me they gave me access to the Vanguard funds I wanted to invest in.

Ah dude, I feel for you. I really do.
I hope you can get into a bigger home at some point :)

Just started watching the thread. Baby due 5th August..... starting to feel scary now!
Not sure if it's your first but what I would say it do as much as you can before baby comes as I honestly didn't realise how much free time absolutely vanishes once baby comes. A lot of folk have strong family support around but my wife and I are pretty much alone with ours due to her family being abroad and mine being gone and it can really be a struggle in the early years.

Thank you guys. It’s our first and yes I agree a few people have quoted the same to me. Do I have to give up gaming altogether?! I just manage an hour or so on console these days as it stands lol!

Really looking forward to the challenge. I went through a tough time with my ex wife and IVF which was unsuccessful a few years ago now so this is a dream come true.
