OcUK Dadsnet thread

I was 43 and 45 when my children were born. I'm 47 in November and do have the odd thought about being an older dad. However, I don't really care and I look great for my age lol.

The only thing that bothers me, which I have no control over, is statistically I won't have as much time with my kids as a younger father should.
I was 45 when we had our daughter - my concern is also the fact that I may not see her achieve as much as other Dad's get to, but ensuring I pack every day I can with Love, adventures and activities

Depends how much time you cram in with them, I'm 41 with a 10 month old girl, as long as I see her stand independently then all is well, it's more than a lot of other people get to see.

Also means she will still be at home when I'm older so can do all the gardening for me!

43 here with a 5 year old and potentially another on the way soon, definitely more exhausting as an older parent but additionally, i'm appreciating things a less mature me wouldn't take such pleasure in.

The one thing I do regret is the likelihood of seeing a grandchild reach adulthood is slim.

40 in September with an almost 11 week old. And we are planning a second. No regrets, but I agree seeing grandkids become adults is something I’ve accepted may not be possible.

Soon to be first time dad here freaking out a little about the car seat. Got a decent silver cross car seat and just fitted it as per instructions. Connected with isofix etc, I'm still able to 'wobble' the seat a little bit side to side (not forward/backward).

I assumed that the seat would be rock solid when connected to the ISOFIX and not move at all, it moves about 1cm left/right, just where the 'clamps' are on the little isofix bar connector.

I'm fortunate to get to spend lots of time with them already. I'm building my business so I can semi-retire by 50 and be fully retired at 55 so I'll be a full time dad by the time they're 12 and 9. Just need to get my fitness in order!!

My one year already does the gardening, if by gardening you mean eating soil!

Just in time for the years they want nowt to do with you. Joking.....not joking.

We're after a travel pram, does anyone have the Babyzen Yoyo2?
Yes, we have that with pretty much every accessory and progressed from the newborn pack upwards to forward facing. I think it was a fantastic choice - if there’s anything specific you want to know, shout… Easily fits in a car footwell and after 3 years of abuse has worn really well.

Gender scan today (my first child fiancée third) hoping for team boy as she already has 2 girls. It hasn’t really sunk in that I’m having a child until today safe to say I’m bricking it now

It’s good. Ours gets more use than the uppababy vista we also have. The vista is way nicer to push and better designed for the kids but just big which is where the yo-yo wins in London.

Annoyances:

1. If you’re long legged walking quickly isn’t easy as you keep catching your feet on the back of it as the handle doesn’t adjust.
2. The wheels sometimes get stuck when trying to fold / unfold it.

Yo didn't see anyone reply...

Had the exact same thought with our Silver Cross seat - it isn't totally rock solid but it seems to vary a bit by car - at one point we had a hire car different to our usual one and it had slightly less play in that. I tried adjusting it a bit and the only thing I noticed made a little difference is that the "leg" which extends down to the floor needs to be not extended too aggressively - beyond a certain amount of "push" it actually makes the whole thing more wobbly rather than less which feels kind of counter-intuitive, so it should be firm but only just if you see what I mean.

Otherwise yeah, it seems like it's just a combination of exactly what shape + how deep the seats are, the particular model of car seat etc. etc... In the end I decided that I'd fit it as well as I could and left it and it's been fine (not been in any accidents or anything though so who knows!)

Thank you that’s great. I went to John Lewis to take a look and couldn’t believe the size once folded down.

Our current iCandy Peace Cerium takes the entire boot, it’s heavy and taking it away isn’t ideal.

I’ve also seen the Bugaboo Butterfly that has just launched - I’d like to see it in person, too.

Thank you that’s great feedback.

We are looking at this and the Bugaboo Butterfly. Our current pram takes the entire boot and isn’t idea for staycations/travelling.

What’s it like for storage? We have a backpack with all our daughters stuff whilst out. I’ve read reviews that state the basket isn’t that big.

Nice to hear that it’s holding up well. Can you get a bumper bar?
