OcUK Dadsnet thread

Hi all, in ~3 weeks time expecting a son :) . I am looking for a proper formula milk, came across Kendamil, its not known down here so wanted some feedback on it, is it worth it ?
We use Kendamill for our daughter, she's just over 3 months old now and we've used it since she was a day old!

We didn't bother with the Organic one (14 quid a tin...) but use the regular stuff! We just buy it directly from Kendamill as their delivery is pretty rapid and occasionally it's a bit cheaper buying directly from them.

No issues from us with it, our daughter seems to like it (although she literally doesn't know anything else) and I've found it doesn't actually smell that bad. My sister used Cow and Gate with her son and that really had a strong smell.

The only downside is making a 4oz bottle, watching your kid drink 20ml and then not want anymore and you realise you're then just pouring away money.

Should have gone draught  .

We used Kendamill and found it to be excellent. Started on Aptamil but our daughter quickly went off it.

It is quite funny - I had this discussion when I went with SMA. They had like bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. I imagined the conversation when she sees the tins in the shed (used to store screws etc) and asks why I didn't top up the extra quid for platinum and was she not worth it

Son's been sent home from nursery because of a projectile vomit after his nap. Here we go!

It's either:

a) He's got a bug and i'm about to lose a bit of weight.
b) He's fine and it's just because he had 3 breakfasts and extra lunch and gave him tummy ache.

Sometimes the 48 hour rule is a pain in the rear. But I understand why it exists.

Both our twins are now teething and have become sleep destroyers .

The Mrs is going back to work in January. We're splitting the childcare parenting as external childcare is too expensive at the moment. Work have been great; I'm doing two flexible days at home and three longer days on site.

I think I'm going to be utterly knackered this time next year haha!

These last 5 days have been a struggle for us and our little girl (4 years old) she has scarlet fever and is not keeping much in her body, her temperature crept upto 39 last night and was shaking like we'd put her outside all night, I've never seen a child like this and we called 999 but was told she's not a priority, has anyone's child suffered with this, any tips apart from the obvious like medication etc the docs gave her amoxicillin but no liquid form in Swindon so she has to break the capsules open to get the powder out :(

It's really hard to not stray into giving medical advice but what you're going through is very common. Keeping hydrated is important and managing the temperature with over the counter medicine is sensible. Lots of children get very shaky with fever (it's called rigor) and some have short seizures (febrile convulsions).

Cheers for the reply bud, yeah we're trying to give her more water than juice/squash... She currently sleeping on my chest as we found if she's propped up she doesn't start coughing

Not gonna give medical advice, but we called 111 when our daughter had a super high fever and she was just flopped on the sofa completely lethargic and barely moving. We were freaking out a bit. They sent an ambulance round, they got her out of all her clothes, she didn't cool down. The ambulance made a balloon out of a rubber glove and sharpie and took her to hospital. When we got there, she was fine. Playing with all the toys in the waiting area, chatting away with the nurses etc.

Similar experience the other way round. She was like 35C, called 111, advised to visit out of hours doc. Doc continuously checks her temp like she can't believe it. Off to hospital on their advice. We get there, they chuck her in a bed and before you know it she's up and playing with the toys.

In short, you will have many moments where you think your child is close to death, and you will typically feel embarrassed after their miraculous recovery at the hospital, but you should always make the call and go with their advice if you are concerned. If 999 say they are too busy, call 111 and get their advice. Which might be "get in the car at 2am only to have your child make you look paranoid" after waiting a couple hours for a call back. But you will always feel better safe than sorry.

SMA here, no issues at all.
Same. Used SMA gold for all my 4 kids. I was told by one of our health visitors not to buy the follow on formulas, hungry baby formulas etc as they just have added fatty ingredients. just stick to the same one throughout the firts 6 months or whatever it is and stick 'em on full fat cows milk.

Cow's milk is a year onwards.

We did SMA until 6 months, then when weaning we use follow on but also mix in full fat milk into porridge etc. Looking forward when we don’t have to buy formula, prep is etc.

Random and personal question incoming.

How many of you guys have found that sex has almost completely dropped off the table once having kids? I don't mean for the few weeks after birth but for 2/3/4 even 5 years and beyond?

For me it has just slowly become less and less common and now is down to once or twice a month where as before the frequency was once a week at least. I've personally not changed, it just seems to be that the wife is just not up for it anymore.

I'm not looking for advice as I've covered all bases in regards to supporting her and I'm in clean, good shape myself. I'm just wondering who else may have experienced this particular lack of intimacy since having kids.

This is the real benefit of breast feeding, cheap, no prep and less bugs in the winter.
True but it’s not an option for us, he could never get enough milk so was underweight early on, hence switching to formula and all has been well since. Never had any bugs but we are strict with our cleaning routine.
